Dudes, l currently run a borah snowyside eVent bivy. Its about 16-17 oz if l recall.

So far l have always pitched my DST tarp or Vertex5 tipi over it. I love how it keeps my crap together.

I live in rainy western wa and prob wont pitch without a tarp much if at all l am realizing. And if l do a bivy alone, l would love one with a hoop overmy face.

Sooo, would you guys ditch this for an ultralight bivy to use with a tarp?

Any downsides?

Yes, I would replace it with an UL bivy. Upside - Lighter, breathes better, less condensation. Downside - not waterproof, possibly less durable?

Are we talkin like the sill nylon type? Or like the mesh? Also I think there are some Cuban ones too. Anybody have experience with those? Are they obnoxiously loud?

Silnylon, silpoly, or DCF floor with a light weight breathable dwr treated top with some mesh. Borah gear or MLD super light are a couple popular ones.

The couple I have aren’t loud at all.
