Garmin Rino gps radio alternatives

Does anyone have an alternative to a Garmin Rino for "buddy tracking" when out of cell range? I'd really like to find a product that uses my phone as an interface and sends/receives gps position bursts over radio frequencies, much like a Rino. I can't be the first one to want something like this...

Don't have an alternative but I do like that feature. Its come in handy more than once.

You can kind of use the Delorme Inreach to do this by sending each other messages as it gives their coordinates but it is not nearly as easy as using a rhino.

I know you can track each others units with the Garmin Alpha's, they are for hound hunting so I am not sure if there is a model for the everyday guy that has the same features but you would have to think. You can see each others hand held unit on your gps map.
