How to download better basemaps to handheld GPS?

I've got a Garmin Oregon 600 and an OnX Maps chip but the basemap image resolution is terrible. Any good resources on how to download and view better basemaps?

GPS map depot has 24k topo free for most states.

But now that I think about it your OnX should be 24k. I'd bet you have a setting that needs to be changed on your Oregon.
