The weekend after I️ returned from Idaho elk hunting, it was the Tennessee youth deer season. Both of my kids were able to get deer on this hunt. My little girl (10) passed on several does to get her first buck, and my son (a seasoned vet at 13) was able to close the deal on one as well.

The next weekend was muzzleloader season (which lasts a couple weeks in TN), but we decided to sit the first weekend out because it was so warm. Cooler temperatures pushed in this week, so we hunted an area where we’ve found a lot of pre-rut sign (scrapes and rubs). About 7:15 am a nice 3 1/2 year old buck walked out in front of me. I️ made a very difficult decision to let him walk. He just wasn’t quite the deer I️ was looking for. As he was walking away, I️ was wondering if I️ would regret letting him go, when a big mature 10 point intercepted him on the hill. I️ ranged him at 120 yards, cocked the hammer on the TC Omega, and squeezed off the shot. A big mature whitetail down. Couldn’t be happier.

Tennessee allows two bucks, so we are back in the woods this morning. Relentless
