Got it done in record time to get my first Coues buck killed. I couldn’t pass up this buck that popped up first day in the unit. Total time in the unit was less than 24 hours. Saw around 30 deer (does and fawns) and there was a smaller buck with this one. Almost regret not having to work a little harder, but this is the first Coues deer I have ever laid eyes on and I’m not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Especially for an animal that I haven’t harvested yet. The shot with my 6.5 Creedmoor could have been easily made with a trad’ bow and arrow. I think the snow (Unit 29, yes, snow) and colder weather had the deer on their feet all morning. Killed this one at 11:30am at 6700’. Fun, but too quick a trip. Next time I’ll hold out for a bigger one.
