I found him this morning right at first light (he looks soooo good). I was slightly above him at a distance of 800 yards.  I had to cross a rokslide in the dark about 30 minutes before.  I could tell by his behavior that he’d heard me.  Just stood and stared up the mountain before finally moving at a good pace off into the high sage.  I took off in an effort to cut him off as it looked like he was headed for the country i first took the video.  I lost sight of him at 6:43 as I crested the ridge to get to the backside where I thought he might show up.  Well, you know how it is once I lose sight of him.  Hunted till 9:30 and he never showed.  Lost in a fold in the terrian like a dozen times before.

Well people, hate to quit, but it’s time. It’s been 10 days with multiple sightings, one decent chance, yet he’s still running around.  That’s OK with me and I’m still praisin’ the Lord for the chance.  Like I said in a few videos back, I only get a chance to hunt a buck like this every 4 or 5 years.  I’ll be back for some day hunts and if you’re a blog subscriber, you’ll get an email notification that I’m here (if not a subscriber, see “Subscribe to blog” upper right under Fitness/Other links.)  The Colorado muzzleloader hunt starts (Lord willin’) on the 13th, so stay close.

Thank you so much for following along this week and for all the postive comments.  It really does make a difference and is a heckuva lotta fun to take you all buck hunting.  I hope you have a new appreciation for big mule deer and just how hard they are to find and take.  Thanks also to the sponsors who made all this gear possible.  I’ve been hunting for four decades and the gear now is better than ever.

Finally, the biggest thanks goes to my wife Jodi.  She’s played mom, dad, farmer, rancher, teacher this last 10 days with just a few (very few) calls and texts from me.  Thank you, baby. NONE of this would be possible without you.  I love you.

Watch this week as I draw for the Athens Convixtion bow, Tight Spot Quiver, and Solid Broadheads (the Vortex drawing will be later in the fall).  It’s not too late to get entered.  See those posts to find the rules to get in.

Here’s a video I shot this week to pass the time demonstrating the accuracy potential when shooting an Athens Convixtion with a Black Gold Ascent sight paired with the Swarovski EL Range with “shoot-to” distance.  This stuff wasn’t possible 10 years ago.

Robby Denning
Robby Denning started hunting mule deer in the late 1970’s, only missing one season in 35 years. At 25, he gave up the pursuit of all other big-game to focus on taking the best bucks possible. He began hunting the West on a DIY budget hunting an average of 30 days a year for mule deer. Robby loves the hunt as much as the kill and the entire process from research to scouting to hunting. He’s killed four bucks over 200 inches in the last 15 seasons, mostly on easily-obtained tags. He owns a public-land scouting service and runs a private-land outfitting business helping other hunters in their pursuit of deer and elk. Robby has scouted and hunted literally thousands of square miles of mule deer country and brings a wealth of knowledge about these experiences with him. To him, the weapon of choice is just a means-to-an-end and will hunt with bow, rifle, or muzzleloader – whatever it takes to create an opportunity to take a great mule deer. He is also the author of "Hunting Big Mule Deer" available on Amazon. Robby believes all of creation is from God for man to manage, respect, and through which to know its Creator
