I've been reviewing the Tentipi system from Rokslide sponsor Mansfield Outdoors on our Sleep System forum. I don't want you guys to miss this as it can save stock users some considerable weight over traditional canvas and collapsible stoves as you can run an open fire inside these tents. Here is the Safir 9 Tentipi video--at 30lbs, it's about half what a wall tent would run:

You don't have to have the Hekla stovebox if you want to save weight, just run the open fire in a rock ring!

I would venture that you don't need a rock ring, a depression/hole would do the job just as well.

I think it would too. Tom at Mansfield said that the better you can get the fire to draft, the better you smoke clearance in the tent, so as long as you kept it hot in a hole, should be fine.

sorry man, I guess I forgot to subscribe to this thread. Yes, I ran the Hekla in the Tentipi on two different trips. My conclusion- if you have dry wood available, it works as you can clear the smoke. I'd recommend based on my experience just using an open fire ring in the event you need a warm tent. If I knew I was going in cold weather where heat was required on a daily basis, I'd run propane heater if a road camp, or a lightweight woodburner if it was backcountry. I did a wrap up video on the Tentipi when I was in Colorado late October here:
