This thread made me realize why I have so many hats. Lots that didn’t work!

This year for western hunting I settled on a ball cap from Sitka (like bills to keep rain off glasses), merino Bennie and neck gaiter and an old fleece Bennie sized a bit large to layer over my ball cap. Can go from warm to cold with minimal weight and bulk. Liked this system.

For whitetail stand hunting. Like stormy kromer for cooler temps. When cold, sirrus fleece full head gear and the kromer on top or a wool pull over hat.

I have the Sitka cap and Kuiu Pro Mesh back (trucker). I don't like either.....The Sitka is flimsy and a pain to steady binoculars. The Kuiu feels shallow and I don't have a big head by any means. I wear mid-crown Patagonia hats for reference.

I'm a fan of standard sturdy truckers- the hunting brands don't seem to have much in that category, look at the fly fishing brands.

I have too many hats. I prefer boonies. I was looking at
TAD gear boonies and the Simms goretex ball cap with
flaps the other day. Simms seems to change models
often and vendors show different caps that the Simms
web site.
I love my Ghost rain by OR for hiking and fly fishing.
I haven't wetted out the bill yet to see how it
holds up. Kuiu boonies seem to be on my head a lot. Marmot
precip works well until it gets wetted out and then the bill sags.
Seattle sombrero just seems heavy and bill makes me nervous
about hitting bow string. Patagonia duckbill style with netting
on back is a canoeing favorite. It also acts to keep people away
because its so ugly. I have an lbt digital boonie. It would be
my go to early season hat if it fit. Light weight netting
with fabric leaves.

Just got one of the black ovis camo truckers on camofire. I love it...sturdy, decent bucket and camo.
