Fit test

I am trying to fit my son in boots for an elk trip we are going on 3rd rifle season in CO. This will be his first real time outdoors other than sitting in a box stand when he was little. All he wears is tennis shoes and he wears them bigger than his foot size. I got him some 4d quest he has about 3/8" to the end of the boot to his toe with sock liners and darn tough Vermont socks. They are 9.5 and he usually gets a 10.5 in shoes. Any advice. I really want him to enjoy this so we can go more often.

Is this enough room or too much?

From my perspective, if the toes aren't touching the front of the toe box, the boots will be fine for this hunt.
