Nope spring is early. It is usually end of April before this part of the north fork is accessible and that is with opening the road up! A blade hasn’t even been put down yet up there and I only had to walk my TW-200 a total of 100 feet through snow.
North Fork Clearwater isn’t fairing any better. Talk about ugly from the ground and from the sky! At least I’ve been seeing lots of healthy elk and not many wolf kills!
Thought it’d bump this one back up. It’s looking really bad under 5000’ here. Got up to 7k today and there was only 7’ of snow in the shade. Snotel sites don’t tell the whole story of what is going on Lower down in the woods. Location is Idaho Unit 12.

We’re a month earlier from last IMO regarding access. I looked back at last years pictures on my phone compared to this weekend and at this time last year, there was 4+ feet of snow at around 3k’. This year 1.5’ max. This exact area where this picture was taken...
Seen my first bear of the year today. Woke it up from having its head resting on the bottom of a cat faced cedar, stuck its head out to look at me then climbed higher up inside the cedar.
Given the criteria be able to call a grizzly a resident or not, I believe a few of those purples are close with just a little bit more boots on the ground. I know biologists have been doing some decent surveying the past few years and some don’t want them here fearing the unneeded bullshit regs...
