Rebarrled one with a 8 twist Brux. It’s been my main coyote, deer, and antelope rifle ever since. 95 grain VLD at 3250 is the only load Ive ever used hunting. Chambered it in 243 and use H4350, the barrel is 26”.

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I’ve got plenty of deer and antelope with a 95 grain vld @ 3250 fps out of a 26” brux barreled 243. No problems so for.

    Which youth rifle?

That Howa mini in a 6 arc would be pretty slick.

So you want to get into reloading, huh!

I can’t imagine not reloading. Let’s you taylor your loads for very specific applications. My kids and myself shoot a lot of reduced loads. Makes for pleasant practice.

    non factory coyote calibers

Shoot a .17 tac and a 22-243. Both are pretty simple and work good for coyote. I shoot 95 smk’s out of the 22-243 @ 3150. The 17 shoots 27 grain woodchuck den boatails at 3900.

    $2500 Western rifle, what?

I’d buy a stock from Daryl Holland, get a 700 Remington chambered in 7mm rem mag (Usually cheapest for mag action) and a #3 contour brux barrel. Plenty of smiths will spin on a new barrel and bed it for around 500 dollars. if find a good enough deal on a 700 donor rifle then you should have...
