    Hunting rig <15K

In reality, I'm finding out that I need a "Hunting Rig" only when I am scouting a new area and during 1-3 hunts a year. It really comes down to whether that hunt requires "Off Road" capability. Off Road Capability comes at the expense of MPG, and Comfort for long drives and daily commuting...

    Hot Weather Cooling shirts

Just got the shirt. I'll give it a run through this weekend. Wondering if a water soaked t shirt between it and my skin might give some additional evaporative cooling?

Packing for trips - whats your luggage/baggage?

As a former Mule packer, we like when people had multiple duffle bags in the 10-15 # range. You can put them al in a big rolling duffle for going to the airport , but if I can even out packs by putting 3 on one side and 2 on another I'm happy. I have a rolling duffle from some big box store...

    Are you taking a trailer?

I find utility trailers to be too light for my liking. My Father did take a 16 ft horse trailer for his South Dakota pheasant hunt with 8 people. The dog boxes, coolers and duffle bags all went in the trailer. The Tack room portion was pretty well sealed and had a door lock on it.

https://www.ronspomeroutdoors.com/blog/243-winchester-versus-7mm-08-remington#:~:text=The 243 Winchester shoots flatter, use the same parent case. I lean towards the 7mm08 because more bullet weight thus more energy. A 140-150 gr. bullet in a 7mm08 factory load is adequate for elk under 300 yds...

    Returning Home With Elk Meat

Meat Shipping from a processor, while more money up front, saves you oversize and baggage fees on coolers. You have time to get a freight quote from processors in your hunting area. I usually figure 200-250 pounds of cut & wrapped meat (boneless) from an elk. If you are solo and wanting to...

Decision is IN!! Shoulder Mount or Euro Mount?

It depends so much on other factors including: What other Taxidermy does she have ? Does she have a spot in the house she has always wanted to have a shoulder mount? Does she plan to be a repeat Mule Deer hunter? I have only 2 shoulder mounts in my home. My first archery buck ( a P&Y...

    Elk call

A cow call can stop a bull who doesn't know what spooked him. And it doesn't hurt to know what sounds you might hear while hunting elk.
