Until about 5 or 6 years ago I would not even look at a Savage. I tried a precision carbine and it shot very well. The problem with Savages is they are tinker toys easy to change barrels, bolt heads, recoil lugs, ect. You can buy a Savage for a good price, used and build what you want your self.
For a hunting rifle check out Boyds stocks. They have left hand stocks for right hand actions. I have a few thumb hole light weights. They are not that light as they are laminate. I like them because I can work the action with my right hand without moving my thumb. I pillar and glass bed them...
