The SHV was one of my first big money scopes and has served me well, but the S&B is on another level. I dropped my rifle on top of a mountain in West Texas a few years back, the sling attachment somehow unattached as it was on my shoulder. Boom, fell right on the scope. Huge dent in the...
Man, I totally agree.
Reading all these posts has been so insightful, thank you to everyone. Basically, there's not a right or wrong answer for me, hah! I see it both ways and have decided to try both solutions and see what works for me. This is where the R8 and their quick detach mounts have...
I have Swaro NL Pures 12x42s and a Vortex razor 22-60x80 spotter. Rarely take both with me. Wouldn’t use the riflescope for spotting.
Thx for the insight.

I crossposted in Optics, but figured I'd ask here since I mainly hunt for elk nowadays.
I have a 28 Nosler and am between a S&B PMii 5-25x56 or a Nightforce SHV F1 4-14x50.
The S&B has been on my .308 rifle and have used it for my NM elk hunts, but it's overkill for most applications. Works...
Hi guys,
I currently hunt with a Blaser R8 .308 paired with a Schmidt Bender PMii 5-25x56. It's way overkill most times, but it functioned as my long range gun and worked really well out in West Texas and plinking out far. I typically hunt elk in NM and just recently got a Bergara Premier 2.0...
Beautiful pictures. Where are yall located? I have a friend about 55 miles ENE of me around the Fort Davis mountains, and they have a ton of elk and much better mule deer population.
I had a wonderful time but saw one doe only. I stayed up pretty high and glassed over the valley and the neighboring mountain range but no bucks. Went 3 long weekends (thurs-Monday) in a row. I saw more Auodad than I expected (40+) and a ton of javelina. Still had a good time but I think it’s...
Will do. My only concern is hiking into the glassing spots. A couple are within a mile of camp, but two are about 4.5 miles east of camp, and the campsite is on the western edge of the property. Aka I'll have to be hiking through the entire property between 4:30-6:45am leaving god knows what...
Getting ready for two long weekends hunting and the temperatures should be cold. 20s in the early mornings, with high of upper 40s low 50s.
I actually managed to get a couple of bucks on camera near my water sources which is good news. One looks thick. Planning on just hiking to elevation...
