    Ducks for a new guy

It's a blast, you're going to love it. Big spreads and boats aren't always needed if you do some leg work first and find the right water for you.

    How much meat is ethical?

This is how I came to the conclusions on what works for me. Keep in mind I only started hunting 2 years ago. Deer #1, took only the legally required amount of meat. Left organs, all bones, ribs, spine, head and cape. I felt bad. It felt to me that I left a lot behind. Deer #2, took more but...

    Ducks for a new guy

Thanks. We've got pretty generous bag limits up here but no woodys so I'd be pretty happy to even see one. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at field shooting geese next year.

    Ducks for a new guy

I use a Zara spook top water with 2 treble hooks. It's a telescopic rod with 20lb braid. Works pretty good.

    Coffee While Hunting

When I liked my coffee with cream and sugar the Nescafe 3 in 1 were my go to for bush coffee. But now that I'm mostly a tea guy, I use a small thermos for on the go or brew up a cup of herbal from local plants on the pocket rocket 2.

    Does your wife/girlfriend hunt also?

I only started hunting a couple years ago and although my wife has expressed interest in hunting, she hasn't done any yet. We do a lot of back country hiking and camping together going out for up to 8 days at a time so it wouldn't be a big stretch for her to add in hunting. She loves sturgeon...

let's discuss your folding knife. the one with you Right now :D

Benchmade small Summit. Picked it up a couple years ago when the local Cabelas was dropping that particular knife. It doesn't get used very much but it's small enough to forget it's there and big enough to get some work done when I need it so it's with me all the time.

Penis Bone - what to do with it?

I had no idea bears had a dick bone until I shot my first one this year. I was skinning it out and while figuring it out, the old guy rise to glory one more time. I threw it out with the guy pile.

I use Free and Clear detergent for all my clothes. Only thing different is all my wool gets done together and hung to dry.

    Food weights 7day backpack

I would be around 12 lbs for 7 days of food for myself. The first couple days I have fresh fruit/vegetables/meat so I drop a little more pack weight early. That's at almost 3000 cals/day and I'm still losing weight. Part of my prep is to gain an extra 10 lbs because I know I'll be losing weight...

    Bear #1

Savage Light weight hunter, .243. It's was my back up gun on this trip. I was having accuracy issues with my .270 but the Savage came through for me. Good luck on your upcoming hunt.

    Learn me on backpacking stoves

I've used the same msr dragonfly for 21 years, only needed 1 new seal after 20 years (last year). I also picked up a pocket rocket 2 last year and love it for up to 1 week back packing trips. The PR2 needs a windscreen, I made one from a disposable aluminum cooking tray. Would recommend either...

    First Time Duck Hunting

I just started hunting ducks this year too, it's great! I've lost one bird this year. Hunting beaver ponds, shot down two mallards. Retrieve the close one, go to get #2 but it's still kicking. Hops over to a smaller pond, maybe 15 yards across, sees me and dives underwater. I waited 40 min...
