Two Gun Combination for Multi Species Out to 600yards

My 300 Win Mag and 9.3x62 Mauser has me covered for close range, mid-range, and long range for most any game I'm ever likely to ever hunt. This would include elk, deer, speed goats, hogs, and all species of bear. Also, these two calibers will work well for a multitude of other game I will...

Getting blood off of a backpack?

Like others, I use full strength hydrogen peroxide and then rinse with cold water, after the blood stain is gone. Peroxide is cheaper than most stain removers and it works well.

    Eberlestock greatness

2ski, I've never had a problem with my J34 shoulder straps digging into my shoulders. I did have to adjust the yoke down a notch on both my J34 and F1 and, when I did, the fit (for my torso length) was much better. What I've noticed about ES packs is that getting the fit right makes the load...

    Eberlestock greatness

With Eberlestocks, it is not so much the shoulder harness but rather the load lifter design. I have a G2 Kifaru Longhunter and a J34 and the Kifaru carries heavier weight more comfortably. I like the J34 for it's features, flexible design and expandability. IMO, the F1 mainframe load lifters...

    Eberlestock greatness

Quick update. I now have my F1 Mainframe and all the accessories I ordered. The setup I've decided to go with is the F1 Mainframe, 2 Batwings, a zip-in panel, an ES Saddle Bag for hydration, and a 1,900 ci BirdBag/utility bag. I've attached the Saddle Bag and BirdBag to the molly's on the F1...

    Quality hiking pants

Like most here, I really like my PrAna Zions. They are incredibly comfortable and appear to be durable after a year of hunting and hiking. With regard, feel and stretch, the Cabela's Trekker pants are very close second to the Zions IMO. When warm pants are needed, hands down, my favorites are...

    Eberlestock greatness

Although I already have a couple of nice hunting packs (Kifaru Longhunter and an Eberlestock J34), I needed something to haul clumsy-size items like turkey decoys, deer blind etc. so I just ordered the F1 Mainframe. I already have a spike camp duffle that I've used with my J34 but also ordered...

    glasses and eye relief

I have older Leupold (green ring) Mesa's in 10X50's that work well when viewing with my glasses. I have always thought they were decent bino's, for the money but my hunting buddy who tried them on a recent scouting trip confirmed it. They have good glass for hunting purposes. For me, I have to...

    What's in your bino pack?

My bino pack is actually just a cover for my 10X50 Leupold's but it has a front zipper compartment were I carry my rangefinder.

    Bore Sighters

Freebird, I bought the Leupold zero point bore sighter, not long after it first came out. It always get's me on the target but I have found, at least for me, it is important to: (1) Use the lowest rings you can and make sure you take care in leveling your scope when mounting. (2) Measure the...

    Kenetrek question

This year will be my 6th season for my Mountain Extremes 400. Mine took about 50 miles or so to break in. Even during this period they were not uncomfortable, just hadn't quite formed to my feet. Now they are the most comfortable boot that I own and I have several. I've worn them hunting elk...

    Harnesses for small binos

I use a Bino-Pac shoulder harness with a Crooked Horn bino cover that I modified to attach to the Bino-Pac system. I've always liked the Crooked Horn cover because it has a zippered pouch in front to carry my range finder. The Bino-Pac cover was not large enough to fit my Leupold 10x50's.

    Swfa ss 10x42

Dotman, Thanks! I ordered a set of the zero stop shims from Tim. He quickly responded to my email and let me know what info he needed for the order. They shipped the next day and I should have them soon.

    Sightron optics?

I have a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 on a benchrest 6.5 Creedmoor and I could not ask for a better scope for my skill level. Excellent glass, (clear, bright with good resolution) and I especially like the MOA-2 reticle. The tracking is spot on and at just under 25oz, it is lighter weight than other...

    Swfa ss 10x42

Jim, good observations on the turret size. Before I purchased the scope, I certainly thought about carrying the rifle while hunting without messing up the turret settings. I use a Crooked Horn Gun Commander to carry rifles on my backpacks (installed on the right side of my packs) and the...
