75 years old - First time Brooks Range

My experience as a 72 bowhunter is even if you explain to a very young guide your limitations, they may not understand deep down. As my dear mother used to say "they hear, but they do not comprehend!" I told my 32 year old guide on my elk bow hunt last year I was coming off Covid and would have...

If you are not happy w/your Doc FIRE THEM!!!

Fire 'em? You mean like I did with the doctor who diagnosed me as Type ll diabetic after nothing but one blood test claiming >14 A1C. Full on insulin and Metaformin prescribed for six weeks until I went to another guy who re-tested with 5.6 A1C. A second opinion never hurts!

    Longest Trad Kill.. ?

37 yard double-lung pass through on a bull elk. Generally don't shoot big game more than 20-25 yards, but that guy tempted me. Unfortunately for him he just came out of a wallow and had a spot of mud right behind his shoulder. He was standing broadside and I didn't even think about the...

    Hotel in Edmonton

I just went muskox hunting last October and stayed at the Nisku Inn where I have stayed several times before. They are hunter friendly. Ask for a hunting outfitter discount. Your outfitter may be on their list. If not, they will just add it like they did ours! They have a freezer they let...

What’s the best wild game meat?

I guess I would try seal, like you describe, if I had a chance. But I know I will not be trying any more seal oil on my raw caribou liver! Ever!

    Let's see some traditional harvests!

18 yard shot. Down in 20 seconds (on video). Clipped near side rib and poked through the off side rib. Used a Grizzly 300 grain single edge broadhead with steel adapters and brass inserts. Guess that doesn't really qualify for a real pass through ..........

    Photography- one photo a day

This photo is not technically very good. I didn't have a suitable camera. It will not evoke much from most viewers, but it does for me. I got to view a wild snow leopard while bow hunting ibex in the Gobi of Mongolia. This photo is priceless to me because of what it evokes. My outfitter...

    Yukon Stone Outfitters

I'm thinking the NWT doesn't allow grizz hunting still.

    Archery Brown Bear Outfitters

I second Jonah. Even baited, doing it with a bow is not a gimmie. Jonah knows how and has been successful with lots of bowhunters (that listen to his advice). I took one with him using a recurve in 2014. If you want to do it non-baited, success with a bow over salmon streams in the fall...

    Tarptent

As mentioned, Tarptent has a wide variety of tents for different uses. Backpacking the Brooks Range? Look at the Scarp 1 or 2 with the extra support poles. I bought one for the MacKensie Mtns in the NWT. Yes, the guide had a Helleberg. He planned to use it professionally for many years...
