Stone Glacier SkyScraper vs Hilleberg Rogen

I don't know how Hilleberg can justify the huge increases in their prices over the last 12 mths or so. I currently own a Saivo and a Nammatj 3 GT. 12 mths ago you could get a Saivo for (aussie $2300), now it's $3550.00. I paid $1650 for my Saivo 8 yrs ago and about $1400 for the Nammatj. Both...

    Hunting Australia

I agree with Wilderlife. Victoria is your best option. NSW has some great country but for the limited time you would have it's a big ask, you would really need access to private property . The Victorian High Country is spectacular and carries a good head of deer. Backpacking is the way to...

    Durston X-Mid 1

Thanks for that. I am talking about winds in the vicinity of 80ks an hour, which can occur quiet regularly in the OZ high country. I might need to look at something different. The lightness of these and similar shelters is great but still not sure of their continued reliability in severe stuff.

    Solo hunting anxiety

That shale stuff and scree always look nasty and steep. NZ has a bit of it.

    Thinking about hunting solo....

Solo is great. You just have to do your homework and it's all good. Have the safety side of things sorted and your good to go.

    Solo hunting anxiety

I don't worry about it at all. Whatever will be will be. I certainly don't encourage complacency in myself. I love the solitude of solo hunts , other times I'm with mates. Carry an EPIRB, In Reach, and a flare . Most important thing is to think a little about how you go about things. Personally...

Legitimate benefits to lifting a vehicle?

Remember too on IFS vehicles it's all about the "droop" too. Change one thing you then have to change another, then another for a minimal gain. Try going to 33" from 31" tires on what we call a Hilux in OZ, fuel economy is 1400 ks with the standard rims and tires, economy when the 33s are on...

The VE 23 weighs in at nearly 5kgs. Pretty heavy to hump around.

Anyone solo backcountry hunting over the age of 60?

Can't beat backpack hunting. We do it exclusively. I'm a spritely 65 and have only been hunting for 3 and a bit years but love and more often than not do it on my own. Keeps you young and fit. Just need to try to keep your weights in check. Modern gear is so good these days. I can do without...

    2022 Rokstaff Gear Picks

I always find it interesting to compare some of the US things to the Aussie offerings. Not sure if you guys are familiar with the Safari Sling and the sling that Moroka 30 makes, worth a look. Fenix make imo the best headlamps going around, I have 3 of them. BD seem to have fallen by the wayside...
