    Thor bullet sizing

I had this same issue. I called Thor and they were extremely helpful. Ultimately, there is no magic to the reference to 20-30 lbs pressure to load. They care that the bullet has some pressure so that it will engage the rifling and not fall out. The barrel will also expand as it gets hot...

    Official Montana 2022 draw thread!

Correct. But if you had 1 point this year and didn't want to draw, your cheaper play may have been to apply, not purchase the preference point, and then bank on not drawing with 1 point, which seems likely given the number of hunters that will go in with 2 or 3 points. Then you save your 1...

    Used Gun Shops

Thanks for the responses. I did the same thing, which is why I was hoping to find a handful of reputable used gun dealers to increase the scope of my search. Sounds like I better start learning to shoot with the other eye :).

    Used Gun Shops

I'm looking to purchase a new elk hunting rifle. I've been checking the classifieds regularly but left-handed models are tough to come by. Besides EuroOptic, any other reputable used gun shops you would recommend? Thanks!

Clothing for September Elk-Back Packing in

For September, the Kuiu Kutana Stretch Woven pants are my go to. I have a pair of the Kuiu Pro pants and Kuiu Attack pants and both are too warm. You'll give up a little in durability, but it's well worth the trade-off in my opinion.

Limited License Draws in Central CO

Thanks. I'll be in 57/58 around Salida for archery season (I should draw with the number of points I have). I've heard there are some access issues with the amount of private in these units, but there seem to be some chunks of public you can access if you're willing to hike back a bit.

Binoculars w/ stand, spotting scope or both?

Using binos on a tripod is a gamechanger and allows you to be much more methodical when glassing a hillside. While your first priority should be quality glass, don't underestimate the importance of a good tripod. I've been using the SLIK 634 Pro Carbon tripod with a Sirui VA-5 panhead and...

Limited License Draws in Central CO

I'm lucky enough to be spending the month of September in CO for work reasons. I will be staying near the Fairplay area. I have 3 bonus points in CO and know there are a number of units within a few hours drive (I don't want to name them specifically in a post) that I could draw this year (at...

Archery Changes to Colorado GMUs 80/81 & 14/214

Those units needed a break, but this will only continue to contribute to the overhunting of other CO OTC units. It seems inevitable that CO OTC is in store for a limit on NR tags in time.

    Montana 2022 Elk Regs

As a NR who typically hunts MT every other year this is a huge bummer and will certainly change the way I approach MT. I didn't love the fact that you were disadvantaged with having 1 PP vs. 0 PP, but at least there was some certainty on when you were going to draw a tag.

    Private Ranch Size

Hey guys! Looking at a potential private ranch hunt for next year. Ranch I'm looking at is 10k acres. Is that large enough for 2 guys to hunt during archery? From what I'm told there would be 2 other archery hunters hunting before us with a week to "cool off" before we get there. This...

    Bob Marshall

I've hunted the Bob twice, and both times we were in a number of elk but ultimately unsuccessful. They are tough to see with how thick it can be, but it is an awesome experience. We were archery hunting, but you can rifle hunt during the rut if desired, which some guys like.
