    Freezer Failed

Your bad luck with the freezer has bitten many of us. As far as eating the thawed meat from a freezer with a pool of blood under it makes me think you may be flirting with a case of the Hershey squirts.

    Conceal carry

I carry a lot more after my wife and I were held up in Rockford Ill. We were traveling home from Fl. and in a dark restaurant parking lot at 9:00 in the evening when the guy tried to get our money. I about chit tacks and pretended to have a pistol in my jacket pocket causing him to back away...

As a Juror, would you vote to convict someone that killed a wolf?

I doubt I would vote to convict but then I doubt I would be allowed on the jury. I'm from MN and we are being over run by wolves in northern MN. Deer numbers are being hammered and the tree huggers sue in the courts to prevent management of wolves. I'm not sure if the tree huggers or wolves are...

Let see your best camp photos!

Beautiful picture. I've had a similar camp, similar tent and a similar night sky on a Wyoming elk hunt. Memories will last forever.

    Older hunters showing up

The information in your post about pack frames and horses is excellent and probably should be heeded by new riders on a horse hunt. The frame will probably be poking the horse in the kidneys making him very unhappy. At some point he will try to get rid of what's poking him which will probably...

    Your favorite hunting knife?

I use a Havalon for processing bull elk. Always nice to have a sharp blade a change away. I also usually have a small Buck 302 pocket knife along that I use to pick slivers and cut rope etc.

Congrats on the Wyoming LE tag. LE tags are often something special and getting more rare it seems. Good luck and post pictures if sucessful.

    Older hunters showing up

Yes we are fortunate to be in an LE area that allows us to do a morning hunt and evening hunt. The area we hunt is great for glassing and we often know where the elk are holed up and we prefer not to accidentally bump them from their bedding area. We seldom get farther than 2-3 miles from camp...

    Older hunters showing up

Because I return to camp twice a day the most water I carry is a couple of 12 ounce bottles. I'm older than you and I decided a long time ago because of where and how we hunt I was carrying a lot of items I could do without.

    Older hunters showing up

I don't carry a spotter but wear a pair of 10x40 Swarovskis around my neck. My knife is a Havalon and I carry small GPS, small headlamp and small emergency kit(space blanket, para cord, lighter, first aid kit, etc.). Pack itself is a lightweight fanny pack with shoulder straps. It has tie down...

    Older hunters showing up

In the limited draw elk area I help in the age of the hunter seems to be increasing because of point creep. Many are from the east and this hunt will be a once in a lifetime hunt, they will never draw again. Most are 50-60 yrs old and some over 70. The guys from the east are always shocked at...

Montana Elk Hunting - Advice for a new Hunter

This is an excellent response to sarcastic posts. Never understood why people don't just ignore a post they don't like. Smart ass comments make commenter seem small person.

Hung up on bino power: 8 vs 10

My first quality glass was an 8x30 Swarovski. I used them for everything, their clarity and weight were great. I then started hunting in country where I spend more time glassing than hunting often looking miles away. For that I got a pair of 10x Swarovski's. For archery an 8x glass would...

You have 5 WY preference points. Where are you applying?

I've hunted the Thorofare 3 times, once for sheep and twice for elk. Nineteen miles back in on the back of a horse. Tent camp with wood burning stoves for heat. The scenery was spectacular and we killed elk. Some of the best hunts I've taken. Go and enjoy the adventure.

162 Eld x bullets that bad?

I have used 162 gr ELDX bullets on 3 big bulls. Great success on one bull and 2 kills less than good. One of the poor kills was my fault, hit the shoulder blade at 148 yards and had a complete separation of lead and cup. Fortunate that I was able to kill the bull the next day. Other poor kill I...
