Gonna go check out the Schilling WMA outside Plattsmouth. Every bow hunter from Omaha probably swings by, but I can't really afford to be driving out 3 hours to be set up before light.
Update. Caved and bought a (used) bow. Strings need replaced but the frame is sturdy and it came with all the bells and whistles.
Hopefully this negates the need for a blaze orange kevlar vest and plate carrier! I'll be looking into locations along the Missouri or Platte rivers close to Omaha...
It's hard, coming from a family that gave up hunting when I was basically a toddler and fished only once in a blue moon. Now all the people who even did that - my dad and grandfather - have died.
All the hunt clubs seem to be ridiculously expensive, 2-3k annually? I just can't drop that kind...
I went in fully committed to doing 20 but seeing how that stuff is run from the inside, I honestly cringe everytime somebody thanks me for """my service""". Gonna get out and use my GI Bill to go to a trade school - preferably the lineman school up in Idaho.
After that, I have no doubt that...
Like I said, I'm new to the area and new to hunting in general. I may find that I don't like the company, but I'd like to have the chance to find that out. I hear you though.
Yeah, I definitely work a "nerdy" job and the demographic I work with reflects that - it's mostly video games, D&D, and that sort of thing, which is fine, not my thing, but fine. If I were ever invited to go hunting with someone's family I definitely would, but I don't intend to invite myself. I...
Howdy y'all,
Given that hunting is often passed down from father to son and that work buddies and community members hunt together in participation of decades-old friendships, how does one who isn't already in the loop or new to an area go about finding hunting partners?
Whether you recently...
Thanks for having me!
I only mention rifles in eastern Nebraska because (it seems like) every public spot I look at on the Nebraska web atlas near the Missouri River is labeled as shotgun only. I'll have to give it a closer look.
Door knocking seems to be the recommendation, and I'm glad to...
Hey! I'm from the Upstate and stationed here at Offutt myself. Just did a tour out on the West Coast and it's good to be back in the US y'know? We showed up just in time for the first snow of the year, which this year was apparently heavier than the norm. Managed to get 15 inches at one time in...
@Skerhunter I had not seen the database before, but I found it and will definitely give that a go. There are surprisingly few names on there, I wonder if farmers use it? Only one way to find out I suppose.
Say I wanted to get away from the immediate Omaha pressure, Lincoln is to the West, but...
@Plainsman79
I came by Big Red Outdoors in my search for hunt clubs in the state - at the time, I was hoping to find a group to help show me the ropes. I always appreciate suggestions, and Big Red looks like they could score you an epic buck! I'm sure it's well worth the money, but I can't drop...
Howdy all, hoping you can help a new hunter (and new Nebraskan) out.
I've read almost everything I can find on here and several other forums about deer rifle season in the Husker state and it honestly sounds pretty grimbones - especially here in the eastern part of the state (I live near...
Howdy from the lower 48. Plan on making my way up to Alaska after my enlistment is up. Did a short time in Anchorage, didn't get to see much outside the city but loved what I did see. Know anything about the hunting in the panhandle? That's where I'd love to settle.
