Thermal hunters, scanner or weapon mounted first?

Thing is I dont have a tripod and dont plan on dropping $500 on one anytime soon. I'm pretty married to doing sits in a chair with shooting sticks at this point. They weigh nothing compared to a tripod and I usually do pretty long hikes into sets if i got the room for it.

Thermal hunters, scanner or weapon mounted first?

Thermal and NV is legal in KS, yes, visible light however is not, so I wouldnt be able to use a gun mounted light if I went the scanner route this year. The AGM looks great but doesnt look compatible with a helmet which is what I want for a scanner.

Thermal hunters, scanner or weapon mounted first?

Looking to pull the trigger this winter on a thermal. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to go with, but I only have the budget for one of these this winter, not both. 1. Helmet scanner only (TW w/IRay ML19) 2. Hogster Vibe 35 Mainly going to use for yotes. Everything I've heard says a...

    Real elk hunting!

No, we did not tag out. We saw and heard plenty of elk but nothing we could get a shot on. I would apply again for the same unit for archery, as I assume it wouldnt be such a shitshow.

    Real elk hunting!

Just came back from muzzy season in New Mexico 6C. This was our first western hunt and to be honest we were pretty appalled. It was a circus of locals just bombing down closed or non motorized trails in 4x4s, ATVs, and SxS all day looking to jump shoot a bull. Only a single sitting in 5 days...

    food storage in bear country

What are you guys doing while truck camping? We will be in black bear country but truck camping in national forest every night. Planning on storing frozen food in coolers in the bed of the truck and the non refridgerated stuff in the cab.

Post harvest hide care before returning home

Going to NM in a few weeks to help out on a buddy's elk hunt. Thought about getting an OTC black bear tag for the unit. Now thoughts are going to if I actually harvest a bear: 1. What is the best way to preserve the hide while still out there? We will be truck camping for about 10 ten days...

Jocko Wilink releasing 100% US Clothing line.

Just from what I've seen, it doesnt look like Origin is going all in on tech wear like Kuiu and the others. Just USA made versions of UA clothing. Origin had me pretty excited but I'm kinda disappointed at their current offerings.

New Mexico in October, Peleton or Merino?

Buddy got an elk tag for Unit 6c in NM. Going in early October for muzzleloader season. Temps historically look like 60-70s during the day and 30-40s when the sun is down. We will be truck camping for 7 days and striking out a few miles every day. All I really have is UA camo base top and...

    NM Unit 6C black bears

Headed that way in October with a buddy to help him with a muzzleloader elk hunt on the north side of the caldera. Thought about picking up an OTC black bear tag in case the opportunity presents itself. How thick are the black bears in this unit, specifically in the Santa Fe National Forest?

Sold .300 BLK Upper, ammo, bullets, cases

Selling my .300 BLK upper. Getting out of .300 blk all together, otherwise I would keep. Suppressor ready. This thing is fun as hell for CQB style suppressed steel plinking. I've got too many other gun projects that need finished so this needs to go. Slick side upper, TiNi BCG, Seekins AGB...

    Arrow build sanity check

Looking to get into the heavy arrow game as I am looking to take an elk next year. Shooting a DS2800 at 60lbs and 25.5" draw. Am looking at Gold Tip XT 340s at 26.5", was going to go with Ethic trimmable static inserts at 150gr. Gonna go with either the Day Six Evos or Iron Wills (either 150...

    Suppressor legality question

Your dealer sounds like a moron. There is no required duty to inform the ATF or any agency of another state that you are traveling through. This is only true for SBRs, not suppressors. You only need to take note of which states do not allow suppressors and avoid them like the plague.

    What is traditional archery?

A one piece wood bow, string must be made of plant or animal fiber. Arrows must be one piece wood, fletchings natural feathers, and tip must be hand carved stone or bone. Any adhesives must be something you can gather from the natural environment and made over a campfire. To me this is "real"...
