    AR Cartridge for Hunting

Thanks for your input. Do you have any real world velocity data to support this? I'm just going off the reloading manuals and I'm seeing less than 20fps in favor of the ARC. I'd like to have some actual numbers to compare them though. I know if you shoot it out of a bolt action you can increase...

    AR Cartridge for Hunting

I currently have a Savage Model 11 in 22-250 that I take out for prairie dogs and coyotes. With factory 55gr ammo it's good for a few hundred yards but I'd like to be able to shoot coyotes out a little farther. I don't currently hand load but I'd like to start once powder and primers are more...

    AR Cartridge for Hunting

I'm trying to decide between AR cartridges for coyotes/pigs/targets. I was originally thinking of building an AR-10 but that would be heavier and more expensive than building just an AR-15 upper. All of the load data in the attached chart (Except 6mm ARC & 22-250) came from the Lyman AR...

    106 Cartridges Compared

Hello everyone, Some of you may have seen my original cartridge comparison spreadsheet that had 43 cartridges on it. Since posting that I've continued to work on it and I'm now up to 106 cartridges and a few more comparison columns so I thought I'd just make a new post explaining it. This...

    Cartridge Comparison

Here's an updated version. I'm up to 86 different cartridges. I separated the rimfire cartridges at the top of the page and the big, slow dangerous game cartridges at the bottom of the page.

    Cartridge Comparison

I wanted to share this spreadsheet I created comparing many of the common cartridges found today. I made this list while trying to decide on what caliber I should choose for a 1000yd target/500yd deer & antelope rifle. It started out as a few cartridges (.308. 6.5 Creed, 6.5 PRC) but I was...

    Dialing Scopes.

Incorrect load info wouldn't make me randomly start hitting all over a 12" plate at 200yds.

    Nosler LRAB

Does anyone have experience with Nosler Long Range Accubond bullets? Nosler claims a minimum expansion velocity of 1300fps. I've read that they might grenade at high velocities since they're so soft. I was planning on using the 142gr in 6.5 Creedmoor so the velocities wouldn't be that high. I...

Leupold VX-5 HD Tracking (Opinions on Huskemaw?)

That's good to hear. I liked the one Huskemaw that was on the rifle I borrowed. That was my first exposure to the brand and they more I look into them the more I like them. I'll probably get one for my future deer/antelope rifle.

    Dialing Scopes.

I just posted a thread about my VX-5HD 3-15x44. Long story short it seems like many people are having issues with Leupolds tracking accurately.

Leupold VX-5 HD Tracking (Opinions on Huskemaw?)

My rifle is a 300 RUM that weighs about 10.6lbs total (Area 419 20 MOA base, Seekins rings, Claw sling, Triad Tactical stock pack with various items). We did have radial breaks installed though so that definitely helps with the recoil.

Leupold VX-5 HD Tracking (Opinions on Huskemaw?)

Hello, I wanted to share my recent experience with Leupold. My dad and I both bought Remingtion 700 AWR's chambered in 300 RUM for an elk hunt this past season. We both topped them with a Leupold VX-5 HD 3-15x44. Our first impressions were good. They had really clear glass, were lightweight and...

    First Western Hunting Rifle

Thank you all for your insight. I have a lot to think about. I just saw that Savage announced their new 110 Ultralight with an MSRP of $1500. Weighs 5.8lbs and comes with a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel. I don't know much about carbon fiber barrels but it looks interesting. I'm definitely...
