Plains requires access (nearly all private) and the really good habitat has been leased by outfitters. You can absolutely shoot a monster out there, but your pocketbook will be lighter. Honestly a "management" buck through one of these outfits would likely be the biggest buck I've ever taken...
QAD Exodus and it isn't even close. The only crappy thing about them is that they are so low profile (I use the swept variety) that they can hide tuning issues, like a mechanical.
Highly recommend giving them a call as well. Be forewarned that you will have someone with a NY accent ask you a bunch of questions and listen to your budget and requirements and then give you several options and tradeoffs of said options.
I wish figuring out my layering system was as easy as...
My kids had a blast today. We had a late start since the winds tried sending my smoker to Kansas.
My oldest (he's a little over three) shot his first foam elk today. He saw the booth and said "me shoot bow" all on his own. He needed a little help, but even with my coaching he found the vitals.
Overall show impressions:
1. Very gear focused. You can put your hands on some really cool stuff. My checkbook will likely be getting lighter. This is very different than the "other show in Denver" which has become a showcase for outfitters.
2. Very well organized. Plenty of parking on site and...
I don't want to sound like a paid testimonial (although I could write an even better review for the low-low price of one of those $125k+ fishing boats they had on display at the show), but Robby and Travis's talk was awesome. I think I noticed a crowd larger than Fred Eichler had. The best way I...
Ok, I couldn't resist. I have now seen peak stupidity.

Configure this rifle in .50 cal with FPJ ignition.
If you want sights, it is $1,093.99
No sights is $1,493.99.
So it's a $400 upgrade to REMOVE sights and not drill/tap...
Last post to point out this BS:
You can order a Mountaineer stock assembly from Knight in shadow gray. The straight stock is $608.99, the thumbhole is $429.99.
Now if you order a straight stock Mountaineer (complete gun), it's a $475 difference in price versus the thumbhole model.
Someone is...
Alternatively, I could order a .45 caliber Mountaineer and the .50 caliber barrel kit for less than a .50 caliber gun.
I don't have an MBA, but something feels off about that.
Does anyone know if the Disc Extreme's stock fits on a Mountaineer? For the price of a straight stock Mountaineer I could get a thumbhole Mountaineer and a Disc Extreme.
