    Kiowa hunting services

I just got the email that I drew NM and used Kiowa as my 2 day guide. A friend of mine used him previously and said it worked out good for him. Good luck Muhonen!

    Anyone using a Whites?

I shot my White Ultra Mag .504 a lot last year and never had a misfire. I do use the Bestill nipple (#11) after seeing lots of people saying that's the way to go and I like it a lot. I have several other Whites as well and I'm not sure you'll find anything significantly better unless you go...

    ER Deer 44 45 444

I've hunted 444 (same tag) in the HC wilderness in Sept. and don't recall seeing any deer except for maybe 20 years ago! No idea in 44 though.

    White muzzleloader users

I'd highly recommend also using a Lyman 57 SMET or SME if you can find one as it really helps most people with achieving better accuracy.

CRAZY Question: 4th Season Unit 44

The year I was up there 4th season, the roads were a quagmire and I would not have taken a jeep with 4 chains on many roads and that includes Gypsum Creek Road as it was so slick and muddy you'd likely slide off. There certainly are areas you can hunt with a 4WD vehicle but just that you'd be...

CRAZY Question: 4th Season Unit 44

Rut was on for sure. We saw nothing Friday and opening day then the 2nd day we started see deer all over along the roads on private in the middle of the day. I think they could have found bigger ones if they held out. Guessing theirs were 165-170 ish. We had bluebird weather and warmer than...

CRAZY Question: 4th Season Unit 44

The guy with his Dad was perhaps my friends however they tagged out the 3rd day? The Dad shot his buck just after they got his sons buck back to the truck as they spotted his deer and a short stalk later they both were done.

From Florida to CO (Castle Rock)

I volunteer with the Castle Rock chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and extend an invite to you for the annual banquet which will be on May 4th. Perhaps you can meet some local people there as well! Basic info will be at RMEF.org and go to Get Involved/Events/Colorado then to Castle...

CRAZY Question: 4th Season Unit 44

Do you have an ATV or side by side or just a 4 WD? Some of the roads can get very slick for just a 4WD if there's snow and not frozen. If you only have 4WD that can severely limit where you will be able to go if the snow happens like it's forecasted.

CRAZY Question: 4th Season Unit 44

I just returned from helping 3 friends that had tags the 3rd season. They all tagged out by the 3rd morning however I'll say they weren't "trophy" hunting and just wanted a decent deer. My guess is one was a 150 and the other 2 were 165-170ish. I think the weather is looking much better for...

    Biggest bull killed this year!

Got this from a friend who's hunting with a guy, who cousin was a guide for this bull. Said it was from the Apache Res. in AZ and scored 450 2/3.

    Cleaning your Muzzleloader

I always remove the breech plug after shooting and put it in a small container with most any muzzy cleaning solution. Also wet the barrel down with most any cleaning solution and put patches in both ends of the barrel to let it "soak" in for the ride home. Seems to make cleaning at home a lot...

    Everyday shoe/hikers

Having second thoughts about light weight shoes as a recent scouting trip to one of my areas has lots of boggy willow areas. Definitely not using the low cuts there. I like my Salomon Ultra X's except for the no-tie shoe laces as it's really hard to cinch up specific areas. OK for moderate...

low cut early season hunting shoe

I'm looking for a low cut shoe for Sept. hunting. I'll bring boots as well but would really like to try low cut / light weight shoes as I don't really have any ankle issues. Any suggestions? Considering the Salomon X Ultras with the regular lace system.
