I would recommend a broadhead that allows for 2 holes....your K.E will dictate the broadhead size and amount of blades.
I am starting to lean towards a 2-blade style, single bevel, and higher quality steel to maintain an edge.
Oh it definitely deflected...pretty sure it hit sideways?
Hard to say as it was messy and no recovery.
Opposite side ribs were not damaged.
Pretty sure IF it was a standard bullet it would not have been a fatal shot.
Food for thought....
While I shoot the ELD-X and its a great long range bullet....I would use on Deer at close range but NEVER Elk or Moose.
The lead isnt bonded to the jacket and on a heavy bone hit it can completely come apart....
6.5 CM is a marginal cartridge at best when it comes to Elk.
Handling magnum recoil isnt the cartridges fault....
Its usually an improper fit, rifle, improper eye relief, or too lightweight of a rifle.
A rifle of proper weight, proper stock fit, proper scope with good eye relief.
Now if your hunting in mountains and shoot an ultra-light rifle you...
It was 150gr @ 2900 fps at 60 yards....so when it hit tree I am not sure what would happen?
Well it shattered 2 ribs on way in.....
I am not sure IF the "pedals" would have broken away?
There was an incredible amount of blood in the cavity so it severed the main artery somewhere.
I am...
Not much difference between 300 wsm and 300 wm.
Same as 7mm rem.mag and 7 mm saum.
I basically picked each caliber. from 358 down to .243 and picked the most popular cartridge in that caliber diameter.
Left of the 8mm (325 wsm,).
I tried to pick the most popular cartridges in class....
For 308 class cartridges I chose the 6.5 CM which is widely more popular than the .308 these days.
The .308 is fairly close to 3006 performance out to 300 yards.
Got a Moose yesterday.
Was a snap shot @ 70 yards....as he was moving through "cut".
7mm Mag, 150gr E-Tip @ 2900 fps.
Bullet went through a 1.25" poplar....FFS.
Tumbled.
Base of bullet went through 2 rubs(broke).
Back part of lung wrecked, liver wrecked.
1 petal also hit guts( looked like...
I am firm believer in E-Tips, TTSX for up to 300 yards....past that Eld-X or Berger VLD.
You want a tough, bullet.
Carry both loads....1 st shot chambered is E-Tip...
If longer range shot presents itself...simple eject the first round and chamber the Eld-X.
Otherwise I would choose...
When I said it was a "womens gun".... you think I was serious?
Lots of over-sensitive hunters on here.
If there is so much love for the
270....why no love for
280...which has a far better selection of bullets available?
I never once said the 270 would not work?
please quote me where I said that?
I said that a 300 win mag class cartridge has a better chance at making an exit hole....and therefore a better chance at a blood trail....and it DOES?
Is there anyone that questions that?
I wasnt the original...
