Kearney is a great city if there is such a thing. You are 90 miles Southeast of me.

    Snowbirds

Arizona KOFA Wilderness 1 million acres to play on, you can go several days without seeing anyone if you desire. North of Yuma I'm usually able to find sheep and mule deer as well as javelina, yotes some quail etc. snakes are bad even in January and February so be smart if you go.

    Wild hogs spreading

Nebraska spent a shit load of money killing off a bunch of hogs that someone introduced on the Platte River a few years back, they killed them by helicopter. They put a monetary award for information on who introduced them I don't believe it was ever collected. I winter in South Texas a few...

    USPS ground

I've had 2 capes that i sold on Taxidermy.net that were ruined. I had insurance and priority shipping on both. One was going to Ohio and one to Wisconsin the one spent 5 weeks in a distribution center in Indianapolis according to the tracking number 6 weeks total delivery. The taxidermist that...

    Sonora Mule Deer

I've hunted Sonora a couple times for mule deer. You won't be doing a lot of hiking with the vegetation and terrain in that part of the world. There are a few guys that have some elevation on their hunt areas to get above the vegetation but not many, if you don't want to high rack I'm not sure...

    Taxidermy of African Animals

Four trips to 4 different countries over the last 20 years. I would never have my animals mounted in Africa again. I'm a slow learner as I did it with my 1st and 3rd trip. The first trip Eastern Cape the outfitter talked me into going with his go to taxidermist who gave me a big discount...

    Cowgirls…

I watched the game at a cowboys bar on the Texas Gulf Coast and I feel pretty sad for their fans. Great guys overall and it was so sad that not even the drinking could ease their pain. I'm not a Dallas fan but after suffering through a couple of decades as a Nebraska Cornhuskers fan I felt...

    Encounter with Big Buck

That's a beauty and I think he's a younger deer probably 3.5 as a guess. He's lacking some mass and with a point missing or stunted on the left I think you're close at 150. He definitely has the look of a buck who could blow up to be a true 170 or above deer next year. Thanks for posting and...

    30-06 vs 300 Weatherby Mag

I have the Weatherby Vanguard in .300 WSM it's one of my go to rifles for the West and overseas. I also have a couple of 30-06's Winchester and Remington, you can't have too many rifles right. I don't usually keep a rifle if it doesn't shoot 1" moa . The Vanguard shoots closer to 1/2 " which is...

Efficacy of Head and Neck shots for LR Hunters

I had two clients last week that wanted to take that shot on deer for the exact reason you listed. They both shot smaller caliber rifles and kept their shots to 200 yards or less. They were both successful and deer dropped immediately and don't wiggle. I still don't like the shot but I can't...

First Western Hunt, need some help

You only have to apply for nonresident elk in January. On antelope wait and see what the winter is like then apply. Be sure to take into account that 2022-23 winter was deadly for a lot of units in Wyoming for antelope and deer. Best of Luck to you on your hunt.
