    Archery Deer hunting in January

This year was my first putting in for New Mexico. Mainly went for elk but since I bought a license I put in for deer as well basically shooting the moon going for low odds not particularly wanting a tag. I drew an archery tag for January. I’ve only hunted mule deer archery in Nevada early...

    Oregon draw results are up

I was riding yesterday and in 2 different spots old growth stumps were torn up from a bear. I’ve only been out a couple times have yet to see one.

    Looking for drop camp partner(s)

Until doing a week-2 back country hunt with one of my best friends this would have seemed like a great idea. We are very close hunt exactly the same both positive attitudes yet each of us still end up at some point getting on the others nerves. We still spend most of September if not all of...

    Crossing Canda border

Asking for a friend ……….. did you happen to go through a diversion ? Supposedly at least here that is supposed to wipe it off your record. The fact that my insurance still saw it for many many years leads me to believe that isn’t true.

    WA Black Bear Strategy

Washington and Oregon both are more concerned with conversation of predators more so then game. That was more a blanket statement for someone moving to become a Washington resident that I’m assuming is looking for more then just bear opportunity. Maybe I’m incorrect but I believe they got rid...

    WA Black Bear Strategy

I can’t speak for Washington specifically never hunted the area. Oregon is similar terrain however. Tacoma from what I have seen I would think you would have a couple hour drive to get into hunting maybe I’m wrong there. E scouting will be your friend. Research timber companies that allow...

    DIY Freeze Dried Recipes

Cheese makes a good snack too. My son did mangos the other day they were really sour edible but not worth the hassle lol. It could be we don’t know what we are doing and they were not ripe too.

    Old Bear Summer Sausage

Worth thawing out and seeing if there is freezer burn. I recently cooked hamburger helper with a long lost package of elk burger from 16. No one died bit of freezer burn I cut off the edges everyone had seconds. I trust game meat I processed way more then anything store bought

Elevation change to stop other hunters

I agree with a lot more than you think. You could end up running into hunters with pack stock as well. With the resources out there now it’s hard to find somewhere no one else will go.

Your First Shot on a Cold Bore is the most important.

Gets em on the run adds to the challenge. All joking aside I’ve never claimed to be a good shot. Good optics make it possible for not great shooters to shoot moderate distances.

Your First Shot on a Cold Bore is the most important.

I’m a firm believer in at least one sound shot. I concentrate a lot more on follow up shots. So I guess you could say it’s rare I rifle hunt without my barrel getting a proper warm up! Also took up archery hunting years ago, for some reason I hold my composure a lot better with arrows.

    Donkeys, Llamas or Goats

I’ve never tried goat but there are times it has crossed my mind! Amazing what you will put up with to have a sufficiently lighter pack back.

    Backpacking food

Freeze dryers for home use are becoming more and more reasonable, if you spend enough time living off freeze dried food. If I’m feeling lazy at dinner time I’ll make hot water in the kerig and go dig though my totes for dinner and rehydrate preserved meals at home too.
