Looking for good cartridge and budget rifle for 14 y/o

A Ruger American scoped package, Savage Axis scoped package or Winchester XPR scoped package in 6.5 Creedmoor. Great availability of ammo from 100gr - 150gr+ takes care of everything he'd ever hunt and he could find the ammo almost anywhere.

    Masculinity and Caliber Choice

Another fallacy. There is no such thing as a larger hunting-type cartridge providing "added insurance" for a non-lethal hit. A bad hit with a .243 is no different than the same bad hit with a .300 RUM.

The cartridge for the next 30 years….

Easy answer for me. The 6.5 Creedmoor is ubiquitous at this point. It is the "OG" of the modern, efficient cartridges and ammo is available everywhere.

    I want a 6.8 Western…but…

You could always by a Winchester Model 70 in 6.8 Western. That would eliminate the rebarrelling issues.

Best All Copper Cartridge for Whitetail Deer for a Tikka T3x 6.5 Creedmoor?

If the Winchester Copper Impact 125gr shoots well in the rifle, that is what I would run. That bullet expands better than other copper bullets which makes it a very good choice for deer. It opens quickly, does a ton of damage because of it then usually leaves a very nice exit wound.

    New Packs from Kifaru 2024

Looks nice but with the poor customer service still pervasive, I’ll pass.

    Suppressor-Ready Factory Rifle < $2K in 6.5 Creedmoor

Not under a rock. I’ve just never been a huge Tikka fan as I’ve never liked their stocks. So, the “cheap” Tikka rifle always seemed to be priced quite a bit higher than other cheap rifles simply because a new stock was needed to make it half-way livable. Now, the same cheap rifle at $1500 plus...

    Suppressor-Ready Factory Rifle < $2K in 6.5 Creedmoor

Nice you can get a chop and thread for $150. About $400 or more here. I’d still need to buy a new stock, as well.

    Suppressor-Ready Factory Rifle < $2K in 6.5 Creedmoor

Jesus. When did $399 Tikka rifles get to $1,500?

    Suppressor-Ready Factory Rifle < $2K in 6.5 Creedmoor

I’m looking for a suppressor ready factory rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor with a barrel 20 - 22” long and some type of “precision-style” stock that can be had for something around $2K. I’ll put a small suppressor on it and use it for an all-around hunting and truck rifle. Think of it as a project that...

Christensen Arms Evoke New for 2024

    Awfully heavy.

    Which 243. Ammo???

Almost anything. Blade of grass. Twig. Clipped a piece of bone and tumbled. Any number of things. The two longest tracking jobs of my life were made after “perfect” hits from a 250gr Nosler Partition fired from a .338 Win Mag at closer ranges. Found one of those critters a mile from where it...

    Which 243. Ammo???

I believe the "disconnect" is that you are blaming the SST for your bad experience rather than considering that any one (or more) of about a million external, environmental variables were much more likely the culprit. In other words, the odds are it could have happened with the .270 Win just...

    New Packs from Kifaru 2024

It really isn't worth my time to go into specifics on a public forum. Bad day or not, just suffice it to say that I will never buy anything from them again.
