private land DIY, drop camp or Go guided

I really don't need a guide to take me to where the elk are. What I need/want is the access to private land that the guide has. Living in the east, and driving 2200 miles to hunt, really doesn't allow for any scouting time on heavily used public lands.

    Favorite 300 Win round

I have to go with the most accurate round I have found for my particular .300 Win Mag : 180 gr. Winchester Power Points. Actually very inexpensive when compared to the premium ammo. Performs without issue on deer, elk, caribou.

    Flying vs driving

Flying sucks. Once they lost my rifle on the way out. Once they lost my rifle on the way back. Once, my coolers arrived at my home airport without out all the elk and mule deer meat in them !! Once they lost my bag with all my clothes in it on the way out. Once on the way home, a kid sitting...

    Wife got it done tonight...

Congratulations to your wife. My wife also uses the bleat call with great success. Just a couple hours into the season last weekend, she called in a nice buck after it ran past her chasing a doe. That buck is in the freezer !

    Best ammo choice

I have no problem practicing with the .300 WM. I had it ported. I can burn through a 20 round box from the bench with sand bags without issue.

    Best ammo choice

Don't over think it. I've taken lots of deer, several elk and a few caribou with .300 WM using 180 gr. Winchester Power Points. My particular rifle shoots these better than any of the pricey stuff.

    Ground Blind Tips

I set up my tents at least a month before the season opens. Deer will become accustomed to it being there without brushing it. Great idea about a center support rod in place when leaving the tent !!

AVOID Boulder Basin Outfitters in Wyoming

It's not conjecture. I was there and witnessed the events myself. First person experience is not conjecture. However, I agree that my back and forth with mntnguide should end. - - - Updated - - - One last word about the response from Boulder Basin : He must have received straight A's in school...

AVOID Boulder Basin Outfitters in Wyoming

The one day private land hunt antelope should have been arranged prior to our arriving in Wyoming. I called him a week before we left and asked him if he had secured a ranch yet. His answer was, "Oh chit, I forgot to ask her about your hunt. I'll call her right off". As of mid morning on the day...
