I hunted around the edges of that unit last year, and we didn’t see much in the WMA area, most of the elk we got into were higher up in elevation. I believe I was in there the middle of September last year. I would be interested to hear how it is later in the season.

Wow that’s awesome! It sounds like you guys have your trip pretty dialed in. I’m thinking of getting up there a week early to scout and fly fish the many mountain lakes up there. I believe we have a pack out situation figured out as well, which sounds like a great service up there.
I believe I...
That’s all really good information, and I appreciate the help! I’m hoping to hunt on foot and return to my truck each night, I built a bunk in the back so I could stay really mobile if I needed to move spots.
Were most of your stalks in pretty open grassy country then? I’m thinking of working...
I’ve heard that there are just so many hunters in there bugling that it’s better off being stealthy and cow calling close range. What are your thoughts on that? When you hunted the other side did you stay close to the river, or did you work farther inland? Were you able to fill your tag last...
Does anybody know of any ranchers that still allow archery hunters to access their land for antelope if you knock on their door and ask for permission, or do all the ranches in that area charge an access fee? It used to be so much easier to access land around here, but now it seems like...
I agree, I would stay near the Billings area or farther east first, fill my antelope tag, then head farther west and look for black bears, fly fish, and scout elk closer to the Missoula area.

Thank you, I’m very excited! Do you think my Time is better spent focusing a little more inland near private property borders, instead of being on the edge of the reservoir? Cant wait to see the area for myself, ive just got to see tons of pictures and videos.

Ok, thank you for the tip. I’ve found a couple water sources located pretty inland from the reservoir, do you think those will be dried up, or an ideal place to look? I’ve heard to stay up high on top of the breaks, to look in the cottonwoods, and to look on the edge of the reservoir. What are...
Hey, just following up on this thread to see how you did? I drew that tag this season and am looking for some advice as well, first time in that area. Hope to hear back from you!

Thank you! I am really enjoying how helpful and willing to share everybody on here is, it’s refreshing. Hopefully I can fill my tag this year.

That’s good to know. We will definitely be there for the whole season and plan on staying a couple days after as well. In your experience do many of these hunters hike in and out in the dark? do they cover a lot of ground throughout the day, or mainly post up in a location and sit all day...
Hi All,
I drew the archery tag for unit 700 in the Missouri breaks, but have never been up there, and am unsure of how much time I will have to scout. Has anybody hunted there previously and have any advice they could give me? Even just a place to camp and start off that would be great, there’s...
