    I did this and it's great!. Adds a few ounces but I felt it's worth it for the lighting and ambiance. I have a piece of glass from my SXL that I sold - if you're interested PM me.     I can't speak for SW Montana weather but I did a lot of research and settled on the Sitka Apex pant. Lightweight, comfortable and well designed were all the recommendations I read/watched and they sure seem like it to me even though I have not tested them on a mountain hunt yet.

That's all great advice - I've driven through Montana a few times but never with the idea of packing out an elk at the time... coming from MN I'm certain it'll take some time to adjust to the elevation physically and mentally...     That's great advice! I have never experienced a pack out the size of even a cow elk... biggest was my WI black bear last fall that was about 225-250lbs dressed. I'll definitely be looking at my pack out route/distance before I take the shot as I'd rather take a picture of a great shot...
