Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

Just to follow up -- the culprit was the loose action screws after all. Once I got my reloading setup going (and to my great surprise finding some factory 7mm-08 ammo), I got to work testing variables and everything tightened up once I got the action screws torqued properly. I'm more than...

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

Yes it is, and I assume that's part of it considering the Nosler test barrels are 24". FWIW, the Nosler E-tip 140g factory ammo shoots in the upper 2700 range, sometime tipping over 2800fps in my rifle. Obviously I expect not to be able to get there with the heavier 150gr, but given the lack...

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

Hey folks! After securing the components I needed to load some more ammo, I followed your recommendation and did a full disassembly, cleaning, and re-torquing / loctite-ing of the action and scope/mounting screws. The aforementioned action screws were the only ones out of spec. I just got...

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

Thanks again folks. I officially have my components in hand and equipment set up. I loaded some practice/testing rounds with some Sierra GameKings and PPU brass. I'm picking up bullet comparator and shoulder comparator attachments for my calipers today, and once I have those I will load a...

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

No I do not, but I have a mentor lined up and I've been reading like mad. I have a good technical background (I studied engineering and mathematics in college) and my best friend who lives in our garage apt is an aero engineer and machinist. So with an experienced reloader mentoring me/us...

Apologies, I'm still learning the language of reloading. Lined out?

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

I'm very very very thankful to report that I found 16 rds of Hornady superformance GMX ammo when cleaning out my closet yesterday. It's not a lot, but it's enough for me to feel confident removing my scope to check the mounting screws and then head to the range and re-zero / test for accuracy...

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

I agree 100%. In the present case, I have a rifle that predictably shoots 3-4 MOA at 100yds. So while my effective range is dramatically reduced, you better believe I'll still be out chasing elk.

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

I'm a bit embarrassed that I didn't check this earlier, but yesterday I found my front action screw to be rattling itself out. The rear screw was still in place but not up to torque spec. I took the stock off, wiped everything down, cleaned up the threads, loctite blue, reassembled and...

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

I did some quick reading, as I wasn't familiar enough with scope engineering to even know what an erector tube was... This makes sense to me. I've been wracking my brain trying to understand how the scope could be broken but still holding zero through a tracking drill, but if the adjustments...

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

Funny, when my wife gave it to me for Christmas I was excited to get the nicest rifle and scope I'd ever owned. The scope mount is a DNZ Game Reaper, for what it's worth.

Looking for advice on rifle inaccuracy

Hey folks! I need some advice on my 7mm-08 Savage 16 Lightweight Hunter. I've had the gun for 5 years now, and it's very reliably outperformed me that whole time. It has typically loved the Nosler non-lead 140gr factory loads, and I can typically shoot 1-1.5 MOA at 100yds (and I figure I'm...
