For a hunt with him do you just pay the hourly rate for flight time of a super cub? While he had his transporters license he charged quite a bit higher than the other hunt transporters in that area.
I’ve never hunted the NWT but from what I have heard the terrain in Alaska is generally a bit more challenging. With the rough terrain and sheep populations at an all time time low Alaska is probably the better option for the most physically demanding sheep hunt if that’s what you are looking for.
If you’re worried about it and seeing a lot of rutting activity shoot a young bull or cow. As a resident you will probably end up with more caribou racks than you’ll know what to do with over the years.
Everyone’s financial situation is different but if it comes down to a choice of either saving money for years for a sheep hunt and buying sheep points or getting to actually take your kid on a smaller trip every year I know which I’d prefer. Sheep hunting is an amazing experience I’ve been lucky...
Not all units but he’s correct on a few of the most desirable ones. Outfitters will only have as many clients put in for the draw as they have tags for. 100% draw rates for nonresidents while even if a resident wanted to go with a guide they’d be in the standard resident pool with terrible odds...
For everyone bummed about the limit being reduced Alabama is still a 3 buck state. The deer have larger racks and no brown bears to deal with. On a serious note I do feel bad for the folks who have booked a hunt already for 2023 or 2024. It’s a long way to go for one deer. There is still fishing...
If your focus is on sheep populations I’d skip Alaska and go to the NWT. I’m not sure where you hunted in the Alaska range but you could expect to see about half that number or less now.
I’m surprised to see them limit just NR but something had to be done and I think it was a good move on their part. Much better than switching it to a draw for everyone like they did for most of unit 13. I’m curious if changes like this will affect any outfitters decisions of allowing clients to...
Now I am curious, what state provides better non resident opportunities than Alaska? I know they require a guide for sheep, goats and grizzly bear but any nonresident could write a check and be hunting them next season. I could apply for a life time in all the states in the lower 48 and not ever...
Because Alaska has bigger rams. With that said I’d go to the NWT in a heart beat over Alaska with the die off they’ve been having. I’ve heard in Canada it is pretty common practice to hold out for 10 year old rams or older. Lately in Alaska I don’t think many guides are having their clients even...
Alaska gives a fair bit of time to figure out logistics for hunts after the draw results come out. I’ve put in for a few hunts where I didn’t have the logistics dialed in when I applied but with a 1% chance of drawing it didn’t seem like a huge concern. Out of curiosity did you apply as a...
