    We try to do a couple of trips a year also, late season. Just like it better, cooler and less people around. Get the Sportsmen atlas book with all the public land mapped by county and the walk-in book, scout out some decent spots, you'll find birds with a good dog.

    budget Over/under shotgun.

    I picked up a Weatherby Orion a couple of years ago. So far I've shot 2 100rds of sporting clays and 2 upland hunting seasons without issue and like it just fine. You can get it in either 12 or 20 gauges.

    Hoping for a good recovery to the both of them and get back out there. That's a worthy friend to have along. I'm as watchful as possible when out and I'm alone more often than not, revolver and spray with me every time too.
