I've used the BRS off and on for a couple years now and while it's light and small and hasn't really failed me yet, I have a hard time trusting it for longer...
I also hang my bladder between the frame and the bag. It's nice in cold weather because body heat keeps the water from getting too cold. I also have carried it between the bag and the talon but when a 3 L is full and that far from my back, it's less comfortable.
I've been using the SO since 2014 and just recently bought a lumbar pad to try it out. I have a curved back and found the lumbar pad to be really nice until the load got over about 50 lbs. It seems like the thick, soft foam of the lumbar pad allows the belt to sag a little under more weight...
I personally don't think 28" is overkill for packing heavy loads and I'm only 5' 10"
I run the Seek Outside pack in base height (24 inches) 99% of the time then add the extensions when I kill something. It works great for me. I don't think I'd like hunting with a 28 inch frame but I'm not tall.
