I hate wearing it, mostly because I’m lazy and hate taking a vest on and off to change out layers. Over the past few years I have found companies (non hunting) that make blaze orange layers and so I’ve been using those. Like some have stated before, I just don’t like being told what to do.
I use mine for general shooting and hunting quite often. I also have a buddy who used one the same way. Both of them use them on 556 rifles, mine is an AR and his is a Ruger ranch. I’ve shot deer, coyotes, turkey and prairie dogs with no issues. So far all the hunting has been under 200yds but...
I don’t doubt it useful and can be accurate, I just figured when teaching new shooters how to be precise, dialing would be the way to start. Not doing holds for windage and elevation.
I didn’t have a forward mounted dope card, we had a time limit to mil a target and then shoot it. I just find it easier to dial and hold for wind, if necessary, not hold for wind and elevation.
