.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

Fall of ‘22 I broke both shoulders of an immature bull (2 point) with a 223AI and an 88 ELD m. Fall of ‘23 I smashed the shoulder knuckle and got a couple feet of penetration after that on a mature bull (tripalm/10 point) with the same rifle/bullet combo. The 2 point was WHOPPPPP/flop and...

Another one for the 223AI/88 ELD m yesterday. Last day of deer season here in NE BC, buddy was up for the last couple days and the first day of his antlerless elk draw today. Big bodied mule deer at 408 yards shooting down into the river bottom. Went in just behind the last rib, and was caught...

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

Guess I can add another data point for the 88 ELDm and 223AI. If there are typos, my bad. It’s 2 am and I am having a gin before a shower after just walking in the house from a successful moose hunt. Here in North East BC we have a pair of 2 day moose seasons - Oct 25/26 and Nov 10/11. Only...

Where you at Moose? I use a bunch of Lever and know where to get it pretty cheap.

I may or may not have posted pics and video of the 88 inserted into not-ballistic-gel type stuff at moderate velocities….

Bad experiences with stone glacier packs

I’m definitely the exception to the rule when it comes to peoples experiences with the customer service… Ordered my gf at the time a 5900 for Christmas. Pack showed up pretty much the Christmas Eve so it got wrapped. Kids and whatnot, didn’t get the look at it that I should have, so it got...

Haven’t tried the 73 ELD-M, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there isn’t a deer walking the face of the Earth that will shake off a 75 Amax through the shoulders.

Personally, in that scenario you describe, I’m busting shoulders every single time with a 223AI. I’m a few pickup boxes deep with the 75 Amax out to 400+ yards on deer and black bears and prefer to see them ball up inside 20 yards. That said, last year’s whitetail made it about 60 yards. (For...

All due respect, doesn’t your experience actually state “30 years of military experience would indicate that FMJ’s aren’t a good choice for hunting”?

Remingtons and Kimber are 22”, Sako is 24”. (The Sako is 1:14 so it doesn’t get shot at all and needs to go down the road, but it spits moly’d 40’s at 3800+ and 45 gr TSX at 3750.)

it’s a little ridiculous alright. Twist rate probably has a lot to do with it….(grin)

So far seems to be about 20+ inches of penetration with a hole almost the diameter of a pop can bored through the rib cage. Bear and moose rib cages pictured. Exit hole in the bear hide was *maybe* 0.3”. Wouldn’t have left much of a blood trail. Entrance holes on the bigger stuff I don’t think a...

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

I have multiple 223AI’s to be honest, built on Sako/Remington/Kimber rifles. With the latest one (Remington) and 88’s I’m at 2740 fps. I could probably get more speed but I basically did load “development” by finding pressure and then backing off some and making a handful to confirm. First five...
