Lucky enough to have gotten a cow elk tag for myself and my father this year for Wyoming unit. First year I’ll be able to hunt in the past 4 due to deployments and first time hunting Wyoming elk. Would love any insight and tips for unit if you’re willing to help us out. Thanks everyone.
Work (active duty military) got in the way a lot last year. Currently have points in Wyoming and colorado after purchasing points only. Planning on going next fall (2023) no matter what next year. Backup plan is OTC colorado. Looking into Idaho as wel for future considerations.
The original question wasn’t really about finances or time. It was mostly about how to get tags every year to get out for a hunt. The states I’ve lived in have never been draw tags so figuring out which tags I can reliably get year after year is what’s new to me.
I think I’ve decided on doing as many otc hunts in Montana and Wyoming while building points. Get after Wyoming antelope relatively easy and cow/doe tags in the meantime too.
It’s not so much making hunting priority. I hunt plenty where I live. It’s the ability to get out and hunt nonresident tags in western states every year
