How to find out where registered outfitter camps are, to avoid issues?

Yes, seemed like each forest will have its own permit administrator or similar person. So people should contact the forest offices directly to ask who they should speak to.

Leather belt recommendation for daily use and concealed carry?

MD Whitefield Belts and Holsters - handmade to order https://mdwhitefield.com/collections I've been using my belt almost daily for years and it's super solid. Also have his Classic holster for my small Kimber 357 and it's the most comfortable holster I have. After wearing a while, it formed...

How to find out where registered outfitter camps are, to avoid issues?

Update: Was referred to a specific person in one of the ranger offices who is the permit administrator. They were super helpful!! Helped understand who had permits for overnight outfitting, and where the camps were registered for. Also helped understand trail conditions for stock, with one I...

How to find out where registered outfitter camps are, to avoid issues?

Awesome, thanks. Yes it’s in a National Forest so I’ll give them a ring. I have a number of prime areas I want to camp, scout and hunt so if possible I’d like to avoid outfitters altogether, so we are all happy. You nailed my reasoning as figure it’s good for everyone.

How to find out where registered outfitter camps are, to avoid issues?

Hi All, Going to be taking my couple mules to scout and hunt some new to me areas this year and really would like to avoid the outfitter camps if possible. Anyone know how I can find out where they are here in Montana? I can identify sprcific areas I plan to camp and hunt so they know I’m not...

    G20 vs G29 10mm for Backcountry

I moved from a full size to compact 10mm in backcountry for lower weight. If want to carry an extra magazine, the compact saves weight there too.

    1P bivy/tent options

All great answers so far with excellent recommendations. I tried a few different UL routes but ended up preferring a super light 1p tent. The weight difference is minimal enough for me that I much preferred the better sleep I got from a bit more room. I never slept great if the bivy (borah...

    300 wsm barrel lengths

We had a pretty good thread for reference a few years ago. While this was sharing barrel length when suppressed (because suppressor adds so much length and can become unwieldy), many guys have shorter barrels. I ended up having Kimber cut my 300wsm barrel down a few inches (don’t actually...

? for those with slightly narrow low volume feet

I have similar foot type and run mostly Scarpa’s with the Lowa Camino also fitting well for a less stiff boot. While there are some Scarpas that are firmer than the Kailash and way less stiff than the Mtn Extreme, I just haven’t tried any with insulation from them. Schnees for my feet ok, so...

What do you all do to fight the ticks during spring

Agree with others. My routine is: Sawyer permethrin spray on long pants, shirts, shoes, cap, backpack Look sexy by tucking pants into socks (chicks dig it by the way), so they can't crawl up the skin of my legs Take off clothes right away when home and keep separate (have found a tick in...

    Electric fences

That's exactly the style I lead to more, hiking from camp. My two mules are great with electric fence, but also have a buddy who packs in the Bob, uses electric all the time for his horse (leaving mules free most of the time), but has had the occasion when the smell of a grizzly spooked his...

    Electric fences

Are you guys keeping one tied up, while the others are in the electric corral? I like the idea of hobbling inside the fence as a little insirance.

Pack Stock For The Dedicated Mule Deer Hunter

If I was only looking for stock to use during hunting season I’d look seriously into llamas. I happen to love the daily interaction, training and relationship building with horses and mules. So it’s mules for me. As many have stated before, I also firmly believe that if considering mules or...
