Mid life crisis career change… Remote jobs?

I work in a state position as a fisheries biologist. Have 2 young kids and my wife transitioned to staying home with them when we had the second. Her prior income doubled our salary. My income is about half of yours currently and I have to work 35 years to get a full pension while contributing...

PA Great American Outdoor Show - Feb 4-12

I won't say the show isn't worth going, but it is far from what it used to be. I used to help a few days at a booth and would butter up to certain vendors and then clean house with some killer bargains on the last day. Since NRA took over and you can't buy guns and many of the vendors selling...

    Still Hunting

Love still hunting after a fresh snow or in light rain here in PA. A very effective tactic in the mountains if you are good at it, I still have a lot to learn!

    Boot wax

Im sure this has been discussed, but my searches have been futile. I have some kennetrek wax that I have used on a pair of hanwag boots. I got a new pair of zamberlans before the season and its time for some trestment. Anyone have experience with zamberlans hydrobloc cream? Should I track some...

Who Wears Hanwags? Looking To Make The Switch

I would say the hanwag leather boots are as good as any of the high end boots (kennetrek, crispi, hoffman, schnee, zamberlan, etc)

Who Wears Hanwags? Looking To Make The Switch

I ran the trappers for 4 full hunting seasons in Pa. In steep rocky sidehills, creek crossings and deep snow the excelled. The only time my feet got wet was hunting in very wet 15in snow a couple days in a row without being able to fully dry them overnight. They are heavy and i should have...

    Zamberlan 971 guide lux

Anybody get their hands on these yet? Seem to be a new offering wifh a full rubber rand. I tried on some other zamberlan models at a store, I believe the 981 outfitter and the boa lynx. Thinking of giving these a shot, just looking to see if anyone has insight on the fit.

    Hanwag Boots???

I have a pair of 4yr old trappers. Very durable, waterproofing is great. I have hunting several full day hunts in over a foot of wet snow and feet have stayed dry. I started getting some foot fatige on long days, but new insoles fixed that. The leather is starting to crack, but I think that was...

    First Lite 2021

I wanted to see these compatible with the whitetail system. I wish the new jacket came in fusion or the foundary came in spectre

    Appalachian slam

To me killing a bear using dogs, isn't even comparable to killing one with a bow or a gun using natural movement patterns. I enjoy hound hunting, especially for coon and coyotes. I have nothing against it as a legal hunting method, I just do not think it compares to other methods of hunting. I...

    Appalachian slam

Many states have overlapping bear and deer seasons, especially in archery. If you have the time, those would be the best dates to target. I live in PA, and I know if I ever kill a buck and a bear in the same week or season even in archery season in the mountains, I will be on Cloud 9 for years.

    Appalachian slam

If you can get bear in 3 different Appalachian states in the mountains without dogs in one year, you may be the world's best hunter!

East coast for P&Y black bear.

Pa has some good bear hunting, the range of bears has greatly expanded and you no longer need to focus solely on the NC portion of the state. The biggest bears seem to come from the NE or Pocono region. There are some big woods areas, but the bears get big from being fed or eating trash from all...

    "Anchoring" Shots

The old school butchering method was a headshot and cutting the throat of an animal to drain blood. In my experience, the quicker an animal expires and the less alert the animal was at time of shoot leads to the best meat. If worried about blood content, take a drt shot and cut the throat to...

    "Anchoring" Shots

A high shoulder shot on a whitetail is absolutely devastating and I wound actually say the margin of error is pretty large with a rifle. If you hit back a little bit your double lungs, down heart, front neck and spinal column. The key would be not to aim too high, I would suggest aiming straight...
