    Firstlite disappointment

Only FirstLite I own is my Gen 1 Uncompahgre. Love the jacket. Nothing about it is durable. Couple tears, which I don't mind, because I am hard on gear. Two elastic cinch cords pulled loose. No excuse for that.

    bird dog caught in snare

Fair use. So, no, I definitely am not in favor of a ban.

Let see your best camp photos!

Circa 1977. The old army tent camp that my dad and I would live in for days at a time while dredging for gold on the Mokelumne River. See the gold pan and carpet washing tub lower right of first photo? The carpet on the dredge catches much of the gold dust. You wash all the sand off of the...

Toughest Squirrel Ever, But Awesome Flavor

Grey squirrel is by far my favorite game meat. Normally I freeze several and then fry or eat in a stew. Freezing tenderizes them a bit. In the field they go straight into the pan. Most times a little chewy but very edible. This time was just far more tough. I now will consider fry-then-boil...

Toughest Squirrel Ever, But Awesome Flavor

Went camping Tuesday and had a nice organic free range tree rat for supper. For the first time I can remember I didn't get an instant kill. Blew out the front of the chest but didn't explode the heart. It scampered about 3 feet and died in seconds. Normally I get a head shot or blow out the...

Brushed Stainless Barrel 700 BDL: Anyone know this rifle?

Yes, my 1972 BDL 30-06.has the ribbon checkering. The wood quality on this stainless rifle immediately made me think "early". Based on barrel code of EQ, it could be a 78. I tried calling Remington but couldn't even get voice mail.

Brushed Stainless Barrel 700 BDL: Anyone know this rifle?

I'm probably not going to shoot it without a pad. Thinking about using one of the AirTech sleeve type, but a permanent solution would be best. Just hate to alter the stock. Funny thing is if it was new, I wouldn't hesitate.

Brushed Stainless Barrel 700 BDL: Anyone know this rifle?

Thank you for your thoughts. Sounds like what I have, with the BDL stock swapped in. Same stainless looking molded bottom metal. I like the weight in a magnum. Definitely a Remington BDL stock, complete with Remington buttplate. Has some really nice grain.

Brushed Stainless Barrel 700 BDL: Anyone know this rifle?

So were there walnut BDL's made with stainless barrel and actions? All of the bottom metal is also stainless color, but I suspect it is aluminum except for the spring and box (which is raw stainless). Not sure.

Brushed Stainless Barrel 700 BDL: Anyone know this rifle?

I picked up a brushed stainless Remington 700 BDL in 300 Win Mag. 24" metal finish stainless sporter barrel. It's got a standard walnut stock and bottom metal (although someone installed a nice Jewell trigger). I can't find much on walnut-stocked BDL rifles with brushed stainless. There seems to...

    Best puffy pants

Same here. Bought my FF Helios pants as blems. Still can't find a blem. Incredibly light and compact small as my fist. 900+ down and a bunch of thoughtful features. Full YKK zip sides, so easy on, easy off.
