I'd make sure you have a really good water proof outer layer. I would sk the outfitters and see if they recommend gortex like a sitka hudson or boreal vs a fully waterproof jacket like helly hansen or grundens rubber.
I got the 3 pin after the season to experiment with shooting peepless, because I hate peeps in low light white tail hunting in new england, and so far so good but havent hauled it up and down a tree yet so can't speak to durability. The pin adjustment isnt as fine as other brands, the housing...
1-4 or 2-7 scope is plenty, I've used Nikon Prostaff 2-7 (hold zero but not great in low light), Leupold Vx1 and 3 (no issues), next scope will be a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 as I want an illuminated reticle and 1X will be nice for still hunting or moving targets.
Is the mount still available? Just picked up a Henry Big Boy Steel 44 carbine (H012) and I'm exploring scope mounting options, maybe you can save me some time!
First season hunting out of the saddle, also used my climber and hang-on depending on the situation. I rediscovered my hatred of multiple sticks on a mobile setup and once I tried one sticking I quickly knew it would be my go-to method of gun hunting from now on. I still haven't got comfortable...
Our shots in MA/NH are typically ~50 yards, I've killed at least a dozen deer with powerbelt hollowpoint .50 295gr with the green base. In my experience they do a lot of damage to the deer but don't leave great blood trails. That said they get the job done!
First season hunting out of a saddle (not exclusively) and like for streamlining profile walking into the brush but its really hard to add layers once you're up. Still playing around with it but may end up being more of an early season deal for me personally.
