I have a milling vice for my drill press and I thought about getting a mill bit but didn’t want to risk it all spinning out of control. Ever tried that? I think I read some notes cautions and warnings against milling with drill presses.
$110 shipped to CONUS. 93 pieces of unfired 6mm Dasher brass from Alpha Munitions. The other 7 pieces I used to make up dummy rounds to see if they would cycle in a rifle I want to rebarrel but that didn’t work so I have to choose a different chambering.

I got the barreled action sunk to the desired depth. That sure feels like progress! Also a little more trimming up the forend and comb with a bandsaw.
This slab started out 2 1/4 inches thick So there’s a lot to cut off to narrow it down to the desired 1.9” at the action, 1.6” at the recoil...
More inletting and a little trimming with the bandsaw.
I had intended to leave the bottom metal about .050” proud of the wood in front of the trigger guard to facilitate ease of floor plate removal/cartridge emptying but operator error resulting in too much material removal will result in...
That’s some pretty wood but I’m thinking I carve my own from here on out if this project goes well (enjoying it immensely so far). I’d love to see your Swede in the stock you kept.
Those look nice but would almost double what I’ve got invested in the stock. Is it okay to just make pillars out of bedding compound? I’m using some leftover pro-bed for this project. That’s what I’ve done before and it seemed to work okay so far. Alternatively I’ve thought of just trying to...
The next head scratcher was how to get the action screw holes straight, plumb, parallel to each other, etc so the extended stock making screws would keep the action aligned for all the rest of the inletting. I decided to locate the front action screw hole and drill it with my drill press using a...
Having never carved a stock from scratch, the hardest part was getting started. My maple slab only had one planed side so I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get at least one other side (the top) cut square to that planed edge so I could have a flat, square surface to start...
