Been using REI and MSR for 15 years, no complaints, both are a dozen generations or so in, so pretty dialed and won’t break the bank...REi is he budget choice, MSR midrange.
haven’t put it to real use yet, but what swayed me on it from research was, that for the money, it has decent low light capability, the dial system is very good and their customer service is great. I managed to find a new dealer demo for a great price and it looks like they sent me a new one...
Agree 100% - nothing better for training for the mountains than training in the mountains, but with work and kids (and now quarantine) I find it hard to get out for long days very often, so try to stay in good general shape, with a lot of focus on legs, and periodize the training types...
