    One perfect pair of boots

utah, if you are dealing with coastal rain forest type conditions very often then I would recommend sticking with a all leather boot without much stitching to have the best chance at keeping water out. I'm with you on disliking boots that have stiff soles for most hunting I do. You might...

    Bucklite Knives

http://www.benchmade.com/products/40033-40034 These are ones to consider, ohhiitznik, for what it sounds like you are looking for. I used the regular model of these two knives (w/ wood handles) last fall and they have high quality blades. They also make one of the sweetest little knife...

Good boots for early season high country

I used the Schnee's Wilderness boot on some early hunts last year and they did great for me. Pretty good balance of weight/support and also durable.

Mechanical or Fixed... what are your thoughts for elk?

I have always been a firm believer in fixed blades for elk but after checking out the new Ulmer Edge mechanical broadhead at a sport show this winter I might make an exception. Haven't been able to get my hands on any yet to do some testing so I'm not totally sold on it for elk yet but it looked...

    The "Scent Bomb"

I have wimpy feet also and don't like the thought of taking my boots off as I know its certainly not going to do me any favors in the scent game. I usually end up taking my boots off though to be more quiet. Been thinking about the sneeky feet type boot covers but some seem too bulky and heavy...

    Thunder chickens!!!

I have got serious bird on the brain now that the weather is starting to turn. A buddy and I are going all out this spring, taking a wall tent and wood stove to Montana for Merriam's - can't wait!

Elk Taken With Light Arrow Setups?

I'm in the same boat as Darin on this. Speed is not so cool to me any more. I have killed most of my elk with a total arrow weight of around 400 grains but have only had pass through shots on rare occasions (on both elk and mule deer) and that has drove me crazy with some marginal blood trails...

    Phelps Game Call Giveaway

I just got ahold of one of these calls about a month ago and it sounds as good as it looks. Easy to get used to and can be manipulated to make a wide variety of sounds. I'm totally impressed so far, cant wait to get to test it in the field this fall.

    Rain gear a must have?

Weaver, Yeah, the Russell outerwear is awesome stuff and is water repellant but not what you would want when it rains for more than a few minutes. I would recommend getting some lightweight rain gear to have with you in your pack. Every time I have been on a Colorado bowhunt, I have needed...

    Sleeping Pads

Evan, Thanks for the info, I just checked that pad out and it looks killer. If that pad can hold air for a couple seasons it looks to be pretty hard to beat. Gonna have to think about getting one of them to try out. Just one more thing to add to my wish list...

    Sleeping Pads

I'm usually a minimalist when it comes to lightweight backpack equipment but after trying out a Big Agness 2.5 inch (Insulated Air Core, 20" X 78", 27oz.) sleeping pad a couple years ago, I decided the extra weight was worth it for a good night sleep. However, I have not had good luck with...
