    Trad hunting story

I have written up a long version of this for Tradutonal Bowhunter Magazine and just never got around to submitting it. But here is the abridged version. My wife and i often hunt with our trad bows together, in fact she got me into traditional archery. Years ago we were hunting Mule Deer in a...

410 grain arrow @ 176 fps or 460 grain arrow at 168 fps

My wife has killed several elk, with a 480 grain arrow out of a 46 pound recurve. They have all stuck in an offside shoulder or rib, never a pass through. But they have all worked when hit in the good stuff.

410 grain arrow @ 176 fps or 460 grain arrow at 168 fps

At the distances we are proficient too, error on the heavier side, always, in my opinion. I feel 460 is still on the light side. It's good enough, but I would keep elk shots inside of 25 yards.

    Tuning season, advice needed

Just for shits and giggles, raise that nock too high. See if it changes anything.

    Tuning season, advice needed

Hmmm...I would agree that I would expect that arrow set up to be a bit stiff, not weak. Couple things to check. What is your center shot set at? If your strike plate or plunger is too far right that could cause some weird results. What's your nock height. I've had issues with too low of a...

Found an old Pearson long bow thought I’d share

Pretty cool man. If you want more info, I'd post something up on the Leatherwall. Lots of knowledge of old stuff over there.

Which broadhead are you guys using?

It's true, and many animals have been killed by zwickeys and magnus and bear razor heads.

Which broadhead are you guys using?

I don't think so. I have both sizes of bleeders and have not noticed a big difference between them.

    I highly reccomend Day Six.

    18 strand vs 20 strand bcy 8125

I likely should have given my reasons why. 1. You will get a cleaner more consistent release, which will lead to more accuracy. 2. You will be able to hold at full draw longer and not have to worry about pain in your fingers. 3. You will build up calusues the likes of a chain gang has never...

    18 strand vs 20 strand bcy 8125

I'm gonna give some unsolicited advice. If you're still new, and learning, put on a glove or tab and shoot it until you get used to it. My two cents.

    18 strand vs 20 strand bcy 8125

Good advise here. I've settled on 16 strands of 8160. I also add 4 strands to the loops.

    18 strand vs 20 strand bcy 8125

It will make a small difference. Not sure if your fingers will notice it. Better ensure that you nocks will still fit. May have to use a thinner serving.
