Vets refusing to work on hunting dogs

For anything short of surgery, this is why I learned to do most everything myself. Never tried it but between politics and cost I won't take a hound to the vet where I live. Back home in central Utah it's the opposite. The local vet works on lots of hounds and is great with them. Sent from my...

    DIY Colorado mule deer 2025.

Hunt the plains and DIY really don't belong in the same sentence. Especially with 19 points. I'm not sure what kind of points it takes to hunt the best plains units, but I'm sure it's lots less than 19. Best to hire an outfitter if you're set on that side of the state for some reason.

CO Deer Best Unit with 7 Preference Points

You've had 7 years to prepare and don't know? One weekend a year in November is all it takes to prepare. Nobody is going to give you their info for free.

Trying for OTC Co Elk, what GMU

Sounds like Colorado is going to appreciate your free donation no matter what ;) Nobody is going to tell you where to go, and this post will be deleted or locked per the forum rules. Above advice is excellent; the way to know where to go, is to go there. Better yet...save for a few years and...

What has actually quit on you in the field?

Bergara HMR in 6.5 CM-Trigger failure due to dust. Typical R700 stuff A-Bolt II - FTF due to light primer strike. Disassembled and cleaned bolt Howa 1500 - Failure to extract. Multiple reasons, light extractor spring and maybe a rough chamber too. Adding a stiffer extractor spring helped but...

Newberg says a $40 elk tag (or whatever it cost) is a $25,000 elk tag for residents.

It's a valid point. A buddy I graduated with (same degree, essentially identical careers) paid 185k for a decent house on about an acre in Iowa. Awesome whitetail hunting literally from his back deck. I'd pay about 500k or more for the same here in Colorado, and our salaries are within 5k of...

Solar Arrays in Paunsaugunt and Kaibab Deer Herd Habitat?

Thanks for the heads up! This idiocy is the only way "climate change" is going to affect mule deer.

Muzzleloader vs. First Rifle Elk Hunting

Yes, exactly. Figure out what the elk are doing for the season you choose and the area and really focus on it. That produces success on elk 100:1 over research and e scouting. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

Muzzleloader vs. First Rifle Elk Hunting

Both are a wash for advantages and disadvantages. There are pros and cons to both, I'm sure they'll get hashed out in this thread. The one that's better is the one you have the elk figured out for. That's going to be the one factor that puts one season above the other. Sent from my Pixel 6...

    AZ “pioneer” season for sheep

It's one more way to get people out of the points pools. Sheep hunting is a race to see who outlives everyone else in their point pool anyways. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

Is Rokslide a Cult? Is Fishnet Form the RokLeader?

It isn't hard to see what the difference between Rokslide and other sites is. One side is full of conjecture and old wive's tales, one has hundreds of pages of necropsies, tests, and accompanying data. Rokslide is refreshingly objective, that's what brings me back. Sent from my Pixel 6 using...

Planning a Mountian Lion Hunt and Have a Few Questions

Sounds like you're heading the right direction. No matter what outfitter you select, ask for some references to call and talk to. If you can be ready to go a week ahead of time, that's enough to plan for weather. If you just want to kill a cat, plan for snow. If you want to see some...
