Currently running Lowa Tibet and Scarpa SL active. The Scarpa do not have a liner but have been a great boot. The Lowa have also been great but the boot will outlive the waterproof membrane, I just rely on good boot treatment at that point.
A follow up question on the subbases, In doing some reading I see that some folks use them with Sabots. In this case I can see how they insert in the sabot and would create an additional seal, the one sight I read suggested no loss in accuracy and in many cases an increase with sabots. I am...
Thank you for the informative post sabotloader. Mixed feelings about physically modifying the bullet. I would need some more discussion on that. I appreciate the information on the subbase, makes complete sense. I am curious if the subbase always loads true?
Great post. I totally get the concern and frustration with the hot dry summer and shooting. I was getting pretty worried about getting sighted in. As I write this it is raining and it is going to be a very wet weekend., that appears to be behind us. My elk season starts in a couple of weeks...
Going through a similar exercise. I just put a Williams WGRS and a Williams .445 front sight on my Black Diamond XR. I am planning to put a NECG N-106 on a newly acquired Knight LRH. Not sure if I will need to put on a different front sight to match up with the N-106, I will just have to...
After looking at the weights I see why you all are asking me to consider the UL. Both the Mountaineer and DISC are well over 8 pounds in the configuration I am looking at. I am still leaning .45 mountaineer but I am going to do a bit more research, maybe call and talk with Knight about stock...
Thanks for the post, it is actually helpful, have not ran into many folks who did not like the DISC Extreme, I especially appreciate you sharing what you are contemplating for loads on the .45. I am also contemplating Sabotloaders reference to the UL, I need to look at that a bit more, I see...
Thanks Sabotloader, I am leaning .45 mountaineer but no doubt the DISC Extreme at the price they are asking is also hard to not grab. I like the idea of .45 and am currently looking through bullet options to get some ideas and see how many options are available. I have not looked at much other...
I have a black diamond XR that has served me well, thinking of picking up a second muzzleloader. Several options interest me but for starters I would be curious on what folks think about the White Bison in the colorado package. Basically the bison with a lyman peep sight. For the same price I...
I like the manfrotto 128rc fluid panhead from manfrotto. I have several ball heads that work as well, but I much prefer the panhead for most applications.
I struggled with this a lot, finally settled on a sirui n-2204. 2.9 pounds and very sturdy, 33 lb load capacity. I tried some of the really lightweight tripods for packing and they just were not for me.
