Thanks for the updates. Sounds like you had the same experience my son and I had scouting. I am sure you had great time though.

    Rucking weight?

This is a complex issue. personally I think it is good to vary weight, distance, and pace. But, somewhere in there I want to be rucking at about 125% of the weight I will cary hunting. Not the weight of an animal I hope to pack out but the weight of my pack, gear, rifle, etc. Plus, where you are...

Can you gain muscle in a calorie deficit?

Yes. You have to consume a lot of protein and lift. On a calorie deficit it is difficult to keep on doing that because your energy will eventually drain to the point where working out is overwhelming.

    Arizona spring bear

Good luck, I have scouted a couple of units with my son and not found much. The word is that spring bear in Arizona is a tough hunt. I am planning a fall hunt with my son and a friend of his right now. Likely unit 27. Any reports would be welcome.

    Anything compare to a Barney’s

Very late but I will throw this in. I have three different MR packs. A Selway, a Cabinet, and a mule. Each is perfect for a different task. When I know I am going to pack a load several miles and/or through the mountains, I take my Barney’s pack. A lot of other packs can handle the weight. The...

    Pack weight for broke newbie

Agree, but I will point out that the ultralight backpacking packs are a no go for a hunting trip. You need a stout pack that can handle that much weight.

    Pack weight for broke newbie

Late to this discussion but don't worry about getting super lightweight. Get the gear you need. Surplus, Rokslide forum, Campsaver, whatever. The big deal is to train with that weight or a little more. If you can handle a 60 lb pack in the mountains for 6 days then you really don't need to be...

    Crispi or Kenetrek??

I I had the same issue with my Crispi guide GTX boots. One was allowing dew to seep through. This was 2021. They were having problems with membrane failure and replaced my boots. I have not had an issue with the new boots and I have over 500 miles in them. You might reach out to Crispi customer...

    Who dead hangs regularly?

This is new to me but I'm going to start today. Looks like a great way to stretch out my shoulders and decompress my spine.

Some of the goals I am reading make we want to just give up and get back in bed. I am really envious.

That’s pretty much my work out. Time, distance, and elevation gain. But, I do that 6 more times and I am carrying a 60 lb pack. Just stay on it and you will eventually make your watch happy.
